This position offers a hybrid work schedule for most of the year with an onsite presence during summer session. The anticipated annual salary range for this position is: $121,000 - $150,000.

What you will be doing:

Summer Session is on the lookout for a dynamic Associate Director, Residential Experience & Curriculum Management. As a member of the team, you'll report directly to the Associate Dean & Director of Summer Session, taking charge of crucial relationships with partners across campus and managing course logistics with various departments. In this pivotal role as the highest Student Affairs officer for Summer Session, you'll oversee all residential, policy, and crisis management aspects, ensuring adherence to Stanford's protocols at the same level as the other academic quarters.

Your responsibilities will include leading a dedicated team of three full-time, year-round Residential professionals, overseeing hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring of over 100 contingent Summer RAs and 12 House Directors. You'll have full oversight of Residential operations, including organizing a diverse range of in-house student development programs, excursions, and other activities for our residential students. Additionally, you'll be tasked with managing Curriculum Management for Summer Quarter, collaborating closely with 40 academic departments campus-wide to maintain a robust academic curriculum. This involves conducting outreach to solicit approximately 150 courses offered for full academic credit.

How you will be spending your time:

Residential Management:

Ensuring that Stanford policies and practices are maintained in the operation of the program.

Developing the Summer Session Residential operations budget and forecast expenditures for in-residence programming and excursions.

Evaluating Residential program effectiveness and initiating changes as necessary.

Coordinating the summer Community Standards Review process.

Adjudicating cases that involve complex problems that may result in disciplinary action or dismissal from the program, alongside Student Affairs colleagues.

Partnering with colleagues in the Student Dean’s Office, Residential Education; when necessary, consult the Office of the General Counsel, Department of Public Safety, Registrar’s office, and Vaden to ensure a nuanced approach to community standards and policies.

Interpreting, implementing, and ensuring compliance with university and academic policies, in collaboration with the Minor’s Task Force, Student Dean’s Office, and others.

Collaborating with UHR to ensure all instructors and residential staff have updated Live Scan/Mandated Reporter information tracked.

Overseeing the ePom process and ensuring it is implemented effectively.

Collaborating with partners in R&DE Planning Ops to determine facilities for summer, housing and dining rates each year, as well as discuss and set house dues for Undergraduate residences.

Providing oversight of emergency response in Summer for all undergraduate students living on campus ranging from mental health support interventions, to student conduct response, to crisis management; monitor and respond to acts of intolerance, natural disaster, and other emergencies.

Curriculum Management:

Providing guidance on budgets and TA ratios and developing and maintaining key departmental ties. Determining financial viability of course offerings and communicating course cancellations to academic departments.

Serving as integral member of department Leadership Team; responsible for strategy, development, and evaluation of program offerings and proposed new initiatives.

Identifying, troubleshooting and resolving a wide range of complex questions and issues that confront summer session students, department operations, and campus partner relations.

Analyzing critical problems and leading resolution covering a wide range of subject areas including residential policies and procedures, academic operations, General Education requirements and WASC policies on credits, community standards, student development and conflict resolution, and more, using advanced professional knowledge of higher education best practices and excellent judgment.

What you will bring: 

Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in higher education setting preferred.

Advanced professional knowledge of higher education best practices

Advanced communication skills and exceptional EQ– to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.

Strong analytical skills to review and analyze complex financial information.

Strong leadership and strategic management skills.
