Job Summary: The primary function of the CNC Programmer II is to produce programs for the CNC Machinists. In addition, the CNC Programmer II is expected to run production jobs, prototype jobs, fabrication jobs, and assembly jobs with machinery for Prototek California as instructed by the Mill or Lathe Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Create Mastercam programs for the CNC Machinists.
Communicate clearly and efficiently with the CNC Machinists.
Order tools as necessary
Kit tools for jobs using a tool list from the CNC Programmers
Clean machines as directed by the Mill or Lathe Manger
Machine parts to specifications
Provide productivity reports to the Mill or Lathe Manager daily as required
Maintain the schedule given by the Mill or Lathe Manager
Keep working area clean and all tools returned to their proper place at the end of the shift or assigned process completed
Build Jigs, Tools, Fabrications, Assemblies and Fixtures as required by the Mill or Lathe Manager
Set up equipment as directed by the Mill or Lathe Manager
Perform dimensional and visual inspection of parts per specifications using appropriate measuring equipment
Ensure the parts machined, fabricated, and/or assembled are consistent with the specifications given on the written instructions
Ensure work output is at or above Prototek California’s quotas
Ensure the quality of work meets or exceeds Prototek California’s standards
Ensure the safety, security, organization, and cleanliness of the working area
Ensure that productivity delays and problems are promptly reported to the Mill or Lathe Manager
Ensure all safety equipment on machines in the worker’s area are operating properly
Ensure that opportunities for process improvement are identified and communicated to management
Maintain a clean and organized workspace
Function in a safe and reliable manner to prevent personal injury and/or property damage
Learn and perform manual deburring operations as needed
Remove tabs, slag, rust, and sharp edges as needed
Learn to use various shop tools such as orbital sanders, timesavers, fladder, belt sanders and hand tools.
Handle finished items in a careful manner to prevent damage
Mentor other machinists or those who are at a lower skill level
Clock in and out of works orders consistently and accurately
Perform other duties as assigned
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
Analytical and mathematical skills as related to reading diagrams and drawings then applying written instruction to a machine application. Ability to provide accurate work to the specifications given and confirmed by a quality inspection and to communicate with all employees within the company
Satisfies all CNC Programmer I skill requirements
Expert with Mastercam or other CAM programming software
Expert with Solidworks CAD software
Expert in multi-axis milling or multi-axis lathe programming
Demonstrates competence through accuracy and speed, such that multiple machinists are kept occupied with programs as necessary
Able to quickly and efficiently shift priorities to keep spindles running as often as possible
Creates Mastercam programs for other machinists and foresees issues ahead of time, planning accordingly
Orders correct tools in a timely manner to complete jobs on schedule
Reviews tools in stock to makes sure we are not unnecessarily ordering extra tools
Expert with ‘M’ & ‘G’ codes and can manually edit at the machine as necessary
Continuously coaches and shares knowledge with less experienced team member
Highly proficient with all 3-axis milling or lathe setups and with all multi-axis or multi-axis lathe machining
Highly proficient with every machine in either the mill or lathe departments
Possesses a highly proficient understanding of GD&T as defined by ASME Y 14.5
Highly proficient with various fixturing techniques including tape, vise(s), clamps, soft jaws, dove tails, etc.
Highly proficient with different types of materials and understands how to change approach accordingly. Feeds, speeds, depth of cut, rough and finish passes, etc.
Highly proficient use of vernier caliper, pin gauges, optical comparator, height gauge, and other inspection equipment
Can set up and operates multiple machines at once

EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED required
Preferred: Specialized Machining Training
A minimum of 7 years of CNC operation
A minimum of 5 years CNC programming with CAM software. Mastercam preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time
Ability to use hands and fingers to operate computers, equipment, hand/power tools, etc. and handle and feel parts of various size
Ability to bend, kneel and crouch occasionally throughout the shift
Ability to push, pull or lift 50 lbs. moderately throughout the workday
Ability to focus vision for: close vision, color vision, depth perception and adjusting to sharp focus
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Noise conditions can be moderate to extreme. Hearing protection will be provided if needed and/or by request
Exposure to fumes and/or airborne particles
Moving mechanical parts and vibration
Fast-paced environment

5 – 8-hour
M-F
Overtime as necessary
