This unique litigation paralegal/legal secretary position allows you to work remotely 80/20 while working very closely with the attorney(s) and utilizing your skill sets in ways that many firms do not offer. The small business environment is one of family and unity. You will be asked to rely on your own experience and common sense to help solve sometimes complex and challenging legal issues. Your primary role will be to assists lawyer(s) in preparing and organizing various legal documents for ongoing and new cases. See below for a full list of duties, qualifications and skills.
Full List of Duties:
Conduct online research and investigations and prepare related case memos.
Draft and finalize discovery and organize documents
Draft and finalize pleading documents for litigation matters
Format and proofread arbitration and mediation briefs
Prepare for physical and electronic filings in state, federal and appellate courts
Organize and prepare exhibits for depositions (including presenting electronic exhibits during remote/Zoom depositions
Legal calendaring (using Deadlines.com)
Prepare and arrange for service of legal documents
Prepare, organize and maintain large document productions (e.g. multi-level coding, redacting, bates stamping using Adobe and Relativity).
Perform all pretrial preparation tasks (e.g., prepare exhibit list, jury instructions, witness list, statement of the case, trial brief, mandatory settlement statements, etc.).
Light filing, billing and time entering (Timeslips software)
Qualifications and Skills:
Certification or associate’s degree in paralegal studies (bachelor’s degree is preferred)
A minimum experience of five years in a paralegal/legal secretary role
Working knowledge legal document retention database (i.e. Summation, Relativity)
Trial experience (highly preferred)
Experience using LexisNexis and Westlaw
Experience in preparing legal reports
Must have excellent understanding of legal procedures and terminology
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Experience using Timeslips legal billing program
Experience using Deadlines.com (legal calendaring program) (preferred)
Experience using iManage and FileSite
Excellent communication and time management skills
