Please call 510-659-6088 for more information.Ideal Candidate StatementsThe ideal candidate for both positions will have:Possess good communication skills (verbal, email, and written).Multiple years' experience with custodial duties such as sanitizing bathrooms, hallways, kitchens, classrooms, offices, and community spaces, emptying trash and recycling containers.Experience in an educational and/or institutional setting a plus.Working knowledge of chemical use and guidelines pertaining to SDS (Safety Data Sheets).Experience working independently, including afterhours, weekends, and nights.Proven track record of working safely, knowledge and use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), and using energized equipment such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, etc.Experience locating items of improvement and reporting to your lead or supervisor, this includes; reporting lights out, water drips, graffiti, broken fixtures, malfunctioning cleaning equipment, doors and door hardware, damaged walls, flooring and tiles, and reporting unsafe work conditions.Experience driving an assigned work vehicle to transport refuse or custodial supplies. In addition, the ideal candidate for the Senior Custodian will have:Experience with leading a team and ability to delegate tasks effectively. The ability to triage and solve problems quickly and effectively.Position DescriptionsUnder the direction of the Administrator, the Custodian position is responsible for performing custodial assignments in areas of responsibility. Custodians will perform light maintenance duties such as vacuum servicing, changing light bulbs, and minor repair of other related equipment.Under the direction of the Custodial Services Supervisor, the Senior Custodian position assists the supervising manager by acting as field liaison between the custodial staff and the supervising manager. The position is responsible for transporting personnel and supplies to assigned areas. It acts as the point of contact for any custodial supply needs and for any field disruptions or changes that might occur and is also responsible for performing custodial assignments within the area(s) of responsibility. Duties and ResponsibilitiesCleans District spaces by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, stripping, waxing, and power washing a variety of surfaces.Cleans work areas such as, but not limited to, classrooms, offices, laboratories, and workshops by vacuuming carpets, shampooing carpets, and spot cleaning.Empties waste receptacles in buildings and under awnings.Cleans drinking fountains, restroom facilities, showers to ensure such areas are disinfected.Services restrooms to ensure that a variety of restroom dispensers and supplied with paper towels, soap, toilet paper, and other items.Cleans chalkboards, dry erase boards, and trays.Assembles chairs, tables, furniture, and equipment to prepare rooms and other college facilities for special events.Ensures that area of assignment is stocked with adequate cleaning supplies.Reports the need for maintenance and repairs to appropriate personnel. Removes recyclables from classrooms and offices.Monitors building security and safety by locking doors after operating hours.Performs related duties as assigned.Knowledge OfCustodial equipment such as, but not limited to, brooms, mops, vacuums, floor scrubbing equipment, floor strippers, wax and power washers.General cleaning chemicals.Safety practices in handling custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals.Skill ToUse custodial equipment to perform routine cleaning duties of a variety of District spaces such as, but not limited to, adjacent building grounds, offices, classrooms, and restrooms.Use general cleaning chemicals to sanitize touchable surfaces.Use safety practices in handling custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals to ensure proper use of equipment and chemicals.Ability ToEffectively clean District spaces.Effectively follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.Effectively report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to appropriate personnel.Empty waste receptacles in a timely manner. Effectively follow directions for the set-up of rooms and District spaces.Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.Develop and maintain effective relationships with District staff. In addition, the Senior Custodian will:Maintain a valid Class C Driver's License to operate District vehicles.Transports custodial staff to work areas.Transports supplies to custodial sites.Monitors custodial field operations and ensures the supervising manager remains abreast of any needs, changes, or disruptions to field operations.Relays information from custodians to supervising manager in relation to the restocking of supplies, problems with custodial equipment, and any issues arising from the performance of field work. Minimum QualificationsCustodian:6 months to 1 year of experience working in a custodial, or related field;Senior Custodian:One (1) year of experience working in a custodial, or related field;ANDMust have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.Desirable QualificationsBilingual and Biliterate.Related specialized training(s).Physical CharacteristicsStooping, reaching, standing, kneeling, crouching, and walking.Pushing, pulling, and lifting (76 lbs. - 100 lbs.).Finger dexterity.Effectively communicate, read, and interpret.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Environmental ElementsWorks primarily indoors.Moderate temperature.Exposed to cleaning chemicals, odors, dust, and bodily fluids.
