SALARY RANGE: $25.00 to $29.00 per hour
Black Pine Circle School is a K–8 independent school in Berkeley, California. For more than 50 years, we have inspired lifelong learners through an inquiry-based Socratic education that places equal emphasis on academics and the arts. Our Lower School (grades K–5) supports approximately 125 students, and our Upper School (grades 6–8) supports approximately 180 students.

POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative School Facilities Assistant to maintain a safe, clean, and functional environment for our school community. The ideal candidate will possess a strong sense of initiative and the ability to follow through on tasks independently and as part of a team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
PERIMETER CHECKS
- Set out cones for student drop-off loading zones on 7th, Addison, and 6th.
- Cut back and remove weeds and growth, particularly on the Addison property and the adjacent house.
- Maintain the curb on the corner of Addison and the front of the lower school.
- Assist with traffic duties as assigned.
- Perform neighborhood watch duties as assigned.
- Ensure facilities entryways and exterior are free from debris and cobwebs
INTERIOR CHECKS
- Assist with furniture setups and take-downs for various school events and facilities needs.
- Handle special deliveries and distribute packages to departments/individuals.
- Clean up spills and address other urgent requests.
- Assist with painting/patching, changing lightbulbs, and other routine maintenance as required.
YARD CHECKS:
- Empty outdoor trash receptacles twice daily.
- Water planters and hanging baskets as scheduled.
- Perform same-day or end-of-day yard clean-ups as needed including removal of gum, food waste, leaves, and other debris
- Maintain backpack rack areas.
- Perform entry area sweeps.
- Manage lost & found items.
SCHOOL-WIDE DUTIES
- Participate in school committees as needed and appropriate
- Ensure adequate supplies for overnight janitorial staff (e.g., tissue paper, paper towels, soap).
- Assist with routine dump runs.
- Attend all school-wide mandatory events
- Assist with summer maintenance tasks
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- 1-2 years of experience in facility maintenance
- Desire and ability to work around children
- High level of initiative and follow-through on tasks.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to pass DOJ fingerprinting and background check
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic knowledge to troubleshoot routine facilities issues, including plumbing and HVAC.
- OEM certification or willingness to obtain.
- Basic knowledge of yard maintenance.
COMPENSATION
The anticipated base compensation the school reasonably expects to pay candidates for the position of Facilities Assistant is $25.00–$29.00 per hour, depending on factors such as experience and education.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Required to lift and carry up to a maximum of 50 lbs., in a correct manner consistent with the appropriate training provided by the School. Reaching with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel occasionally. Use of telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment. Required to sit (or stand) for prolonged periods of time while operating a computer for approximately 6-8 hours daily. Repetitive motion for typing and other keystroke needs.
