Director of Employee Relations is a newly created position located in Burlingame, California, reporting to the Senior Director of Human Resources, based in Merion, Pennsylvania. The role is responsible for designing and maintaining a comprehensive employee relations program that supports the alignment and integration of people and organizational mission, values, goals, and culture.

The position will require monthly travel to the Auburn, California, location as well as occasional travel to other locations, including, but not limited to: Cumberland, Rhode Island; Merion, Pennsylvania; Silver Spring, Maryland; and Belmont, North Carolina.

The Director will ensure that all policies follow federal, state and local laws and are in line with organizational culture. The role promotes and maintains compliance with the organization's Conduct and Ethics policies ad designs programs to promote employee satisfaction. In collaboration with the Benefits Director, the Employee Relations Director to review employee benefits programs, including health insurance and retirement plans, to ensure they are fair and equitable. Through a professional staff of four, the Director responds to employee concerns and complaints of potential unlawful behavior, such as discrimination and harassment by conducting internal investigations independently or in conjunction with supervisor and at the discretion of legal counsel. The Director and his/her staff counsel employees on a variety of issues related to job performance, work relationships, HR policies, ADA, EEO, termination guidelines, etc. Collaborates with Talent Acquisition Manager on recruitment and retention efforts and hiring processes.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years’ management experience in employee relations. The successful candidate must have strong communication and business writing skills with the ability to convey information clearly internally and externally. Superb customer service skills and the ability to champion customer service and hospitality are essential. Prior experience working with Spanish-speaking staff and/or bilingual is preferred. Candidates will share a commitment to the mission and values of the Sisters of Mercy and have an appreciation of the traditions and culture associated with the Mercy charism.
