We are looking for regular in-home respite care, recreation, and supervision for our very cool 24-year-old high-support autistic son. He does best with three- or four-hour shifts. Hours are flexible within the timeframe of Mon, Wed, Thurs, and Fri before 3 PM. Pay is $32/hour.
Responsibilities including supporting our son with:
-Local hiking and neighborhood walks
-Watching videos on the home television and iPad
-Going to movies
-Spending time outdoors in the backyard in his swing or hammock
-Art projects
-Outings to local restaurants, parks, science centers, and museums
-Riding local buses, trains, and shuttles
-Assistance with daily duties, e.g. directing personal care
-Light meal and and snack preparation
-Accompanying client to organized community activities, e.g. participation in sports
-In warmer months, swimming with client in backyard pool appreciated but not required
-Other agreed upon social activities and duties
Our son does not need toileting assistance or help getting dressed.
Requirements:
-Chill personality, kindness, and patience crucial
-High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
-Exceptional interpersonal skills, a caring approach, and physical fitness
-Fully vaccinated against COVID and flu
-Provide proof of identity and legal eligibility to work in the United States
-No felony offenses for fraud against a public social services program or as a caregiver
-Regular access to a car, with driver’s license, insurance and a clean driving record; mileage will be reimbursed
-Experience with autism and disability is ideal but not mandatory; we can train
-Ability to ensure clients' safety and provide comfort
-Be able to enter work time and miles online, complete required forms, etc.
-Exercise good judgment in handling emergencies or any other specific needs of the client
-Be able to follow directions, guidelines, and rules while working independently
-Be accessible via phone, email, or text to communicate about schedule and duties
-CPR / First aid training preferred
