The Family, Youth, and Children (FYC) Social Service Worker I (SSW I) is responsible for providing support and supervision to children in the foster care system, including during visitation with their parents and family members, supporting clients in identifying the appropriate services needed and referring them to community resources, and troubleshooting case problems with Child Protective Services Social Workers and department supervisors. Additional responsibilities include:
Coordinating visitation time and place with all parties, including preparing the venue
Providing real-time coaching to parents to support their visit and interactions with their children
Providing de-escalation support for individuals before, during, and after visitation
Learning to interpret child welfare rules, regulations, laws, and departmental policies to assist clients
Providing recommendations for the level of service the family needs to safely visit with their children
Preparing and maintaining case histories and related records, required forms and reports, and general correspondence
Inputting data and narratives into the FYC computer system
Providing services in a variety of settings including office buildings, out in the community, and at client's homes
Developing, coordinating, and utilizing departmental and community resources to meet clients’ needs
