About Civic Edge Consulting

Civic Edge Consulting (Civic Edge) is a woman-owned communications, marketing and community engagement company with offices in San Francisco and Oakland, CA. We work with government agencies, nonprofits and private companies across the Bay Area. We strive to be staff-led. To us, that means staff feel empowered to guide their work and influence the culture at our company. For our clients, we cultivate thoughtful engagement, craft creative messaging, provide savvy strategy, attract positive media attention, and deliver top-notch events –– to strengthen and improve the communities in which we live and work. Our largest areas of work right now are focused on transportation, infrastructure, education, and resilience planning communications and community engagement. Learn more about us at thecivicedge.com.

Are you our next Project Manager?

As our next Project Manager, you will be responsible for contributing to project teams working to design and implement communications and community engagement approaches across a wide array of clients.

Project Managers at Civic Edge can transform ideas and concepts into coherent draft memos or other client deliverables. They are able to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects at the same time, and feel comfortable taking initiative. We rely on Project Managers to take excellent notes during meetings and support their teams in executing on deliverables promised during those conversations, and bringing a sense of urgency to administrative tasks when needed. We also look to our Project Managers to support new business efforts and other special projects at Civic Edge.

Civic Edge staff work in person one day per week, alternating between our offices in San Francisco and Oakland. The remaining days are spent remotely, unless client meetings, community meetings, or other outreach events require in person attendance. Staff can also request a desk at either our San Francisco or Oakland office.

Project Manager Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned as necessary)

- Prioritize tasks effectively and prudently as directed by your Manager or project leads.

- Proactively communicate task statuses and adhere to assigned deadlines.

- Transform ideas or concepts into a coherent outline or draft for agendas, memos, and other client deliverables.

- Possess full knowledge of project scope and everyone’s roles, and work to “manage up” to support the success of your project teams.

- Efficiently manage project administrative tasks, including bill backs and support for the invoicing process, as assigned.

- Contribute your ideas based on your knowledge and lived experience in all projects.

- Take on and fully own special internal Civic Edge projects when asked.

- Support in development of content and/or logistics for new business proposals per the proposal lead’s direction.

- Spend time learning and engaging in racial equity work.

Requirements and Qualifications

- At least 2 years of work experience, preferably in a related role.

- Solid verbal and written communication skills.

- Detail oriented and organized with experience in Microsoft and Google suites.

- Demonstrated interpersonal skills.

- Interest in local politics / government operations.

Not sure you meet 100% of our qualifications? Research shows that men apply for jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria. Yet, women and other people who are systematically marginalized tend to only apply if they meet every requirement. If you believe that you could excel in this role, we encourage you to apply! We are dedicated to considering a broad array of candidates, including those with diverse workplace experiences and backgrounds. Current Civic Edge staff have past experience in event planning, politics, journalism, community and volunteer management, project management, marketing, public opinion research, and other fields.

Compensation and Expectations

This is a full-time, salaried position with a starting base salary of $70,000. Because salary negotiations are often plagued by unconscious bias that disproportionately impacts certain groups, this is non-negotiable. We cover 100% of top tier health, dental, and vision insurance plan costs and offer the following: a monthly commuter benefit, a monthly mobile phone stipend, a monthly internet stipend, a generous 401k match, basic life insurance and LTD, and 3 weeks of paid vacation in addition to observing all federal holidays.

Due to the nature of our client work at Civic Edge, you will be asked to work occasional evenings and weekend days for client meetings, events, and other time sensitive initiatives. To balance the busy times, we do our best to support you in taking breaks when feasible. We encourage and support professional development and growth opportunities, scheduling regular check-ins between our staff and company partners, and offering thoughtful review sessions.

About our Hiring Process

We aim to implement a thoughtful hiring process aimed at reducing bias and finding our amazing new colleague. We anticipate extending an offer before July 1, with an expected start date soon thereafter. At least two rounds of Interviews will be conducted via Zoom with up to four Civic Edge staff, including staffers who identify as BIPOC. Before making an offer, we will check references and likely ask for a more casual in-person meeting.

Civic Edge’s Equity Commitment

As a company, we aspire to transform our work culture to proactively counter racial and social inequities inside and outside our organization. To guide our work, from 2019-2022, we underwent a collaborative company-wide process to develop a Racial Equity Framework. We value, and seek to practice, self-awareness, and are looking for a new team member who is committed to centering racial and economic equity in their life and work.

We particularly encourage applications from members of communities disproportionately impacted by systemic racism and oppression, including black communities, indigenous communities, communities of color, and historically marginalized communities, such as people with disabilities and LGBTQ+ community members. If you are a member of these groups, you are encouraged to self-identify in your cover letter or resume.

We provide a workplace that is free from discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, color, religious creed, national origin, age, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, medical condition, veteran status or any other classification protected by applicable law in employment or service policies and practices.
