Job Summary:

We are looking for an Assistant Manager for the Berkeley Taproom who will assist the GM with overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the Taproom. They will ensure the highest of standards for beer, service and branding, working together with the Taproom and Brewery staff. The ideal candidate is a positive-natured individual with a love of lager beer culture who embodies genuine and warm hospitality with guests.

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee daily operations including staff performance, customer service, cash handling, inventory levels and product management.

Ensure all patrons feel welcome and are given responsive, friendly and courteous customer service at all times.

Maintain an active floor presence during hours of operation, checking in with staff and customers to address any issues that need improvement.

Fill in where needed to ensure efficient operations and that guest service standards are met.

Hire, train and review all hourly staff; ensure onboarding is smooth and meets company standards and local laws. Handle disciplining and terminations as needed.

Coordinate success/failure of beer selections and menu items with our Brewmaster and Kitchen Lead.

Plan monthly service staff schedule and adjust as needed; submit payroll to human resources and ensure staff is properly compensated.

Manage special Events hosted by the Taproom.

Work with the marketing team on brand merchandising in the tap room.

Submit monthly inventory for both FOH & BOH products; keep a keen eye for lost product or theft, updating policy to solve problems.

Other duties/projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

Ideal candidate has 3+ years managing brewpubs, restaurants or bars in a GM or AGM role; BA/BS/Hospitality Degree preferred.

Must be 21 years or older.

Must be able to obtain Food Handlers Card within 30 days of hire.

Must be able to obtain California Responsible Beverage Service certification within 60 days of hire.

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Capable of communicating effectively with customers, management and co-workers.

Strong customer service and management skills

Must be able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays; including multiple hours standing and being active; firm availability Wed-Sun during tap room hours of operation.

Need to be able to frequently lift 50lbs, kneel, bend, twist, etc.; think changing out kegs, washing glassware, sweeping under tables, moving chairs, etc.

Have basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.) and knowledge of POS systems.

Detail orientated, self-starter and adaptive by nature.

Ability to lead and take responsibility for decision making.

Teamwork orientated with the ability to delegate tasks and complete assigned projects.

Work in differing environments such as the tap room floor, outside patio, offices, brewery and keg cooler.
