The Local Butcher Shop is a retail butchery located in North Berkeley at Shattuck and Cedar. We work with whole carcasses sourced from local and sustainable ranches and farms. Our crew is a fun, talented group of folks who enjoy customer service as well as learning.
We are currently hiring for our Garde Manger position, which manages the receiving, storage, and retrieval of all meat and non-meat goods, as well as assisting with other tasks.
Primary responsibilities include:
Receiving and storing of all food and non-food items
Gathering weight and other information as needed
Inventorying supplies and retail products, and communicating needs to management
Transporting goods to and from the shop in our delivery van
Assisting in the preparation and packaging of value-added goods, such as sausages, deli meats, ptés, rendered fats, stocks, soups, and stews
Cleaning and maintaining food and non-food storage spaces
Our ideal candidate will come in with experience working in foodservice, but we are happy to provide training for the right person - it's more important to us that you are friendly, outgoing, a hard worker and eager to learn! Applicants need to be comfortable driving a delivery van and must have a relatively clean driving record. Hours are generally 7:30-4, five days per week, with additional hours required around major holidays. You must be available to work weekends. You must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
Wages start at $18.07/hour and go up from there depending on experience and ability. We are also a worker-owned cooperative, part-ownership and profit-sharing opportunities are available to those interested in becoming a member of the cooperative.
