The Epicurean Trader, San Francisco’s premier gourmet food, wine, and spirits market and café, is seeking talented Cheesemongers (with exceptional knowledge of food, cheese, or wine) to join our growing team.

We are looking for self-motivated people who love to work with others and who people love interacting with. This is a service position, so candidates should be:

- Eloquent and fluent in English

- Strong knowledge of cheese, food, wine, and spirits

- Experience as a cheesemonger required

- A positive, ‘can do’ attitude and a willingness to take on any tasks required to provide customers with the best service possible and present the store in the best way possible

The Epicurean Trader is a specialty food, wine, and spirits store dedicated entirely to craft products: craft spirits; small production wines; farmstead cheeses and charcuterie; small batch chocolates, coffees, teas, and pantry items. We hand-select artisan products from across America for their dedication to the craft, incredible flavors and fusions, natural ingredients, and beautiful packaging.

WHAT WE NEED:

As a Cheesemonger at The Epicurean Trader, you will be responsible for:

- Cutting, wrapping, and merchandising our artisanal cheese department

- Producing cheese platters for wine bar customers

- Assisting in a retail associate capacity when needed

- Assisting the kitchen team with pressing and expediting paninis and empanadas

- Ensuring that the kitchen prep area meets health and safety requirements as mandated by law

- Provide excellent and friendly customer service, helping our customers fill their baskets with everything they need to make a great meal. This includes making recommendations on cheese, pouring them a cup of our famous cold brew, or helping them decide which wine will pair with their halibut.

- Be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends. 5 x shifts (40 hrs per week)

REQUIREMENTS:

- You are motivated, enthusiastic, outgoing, and reliable

- Have at least two years experience as a cheesemonger

- Relevant work experience with credit references from prior employers

- Available to work flexible shifts, including weekends (full-time; 40 hrs per week)

- At least 21 years of age or older

- Eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer without sponsorship

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

- Must be willing and available to work flexible work schedules, to meet the changing requirements during store hours. Weekend shifts are required for maximum exposure to customers and staff.

- Must have the ability to perform all physical and mental requirements of the position, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, including, but not limited to: lifting 50+ lbs. of product on a regular basis; working safely with cleaning chemicals and kitchen equipment; climbing stairs and walking/standing throughout the majority of the workday; occasionally stooping or kneeling; reaching with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to apply common sense, with the understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form is required. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to interact well with others; deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; make sound decisions; provide partnership to employees from diverse backgrounds in a dynamic and sometimes stressful work environment, while maintaining positive working relationships in a small team environment.
