Inventory Coordinator/Pick-Up and Delivery – Part Time

Excellent part-time opportunity to work for a socially responsible organization with a mission to help those who are in need in our community.

Welcoming Home (WH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. We provide furniture and household goods for families and individuals in Marin and Sonoma counties who are transitioning out of homelessness and poverty. Referrals of families who need help come from local social service agencies who help the unhoused find affordable housing.

The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, organizational skills, excellent time management and basic computer skills. They must also have good written and verbal communication skills. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and insurance. This position requires some manual labor; incumbent must be able to pick up and lift at least 35 pounds, including up/down stairs.

Key Responsibilities:

The position will be supervised by the Operations Manager on a day-to-day basis. The ultimate reporting relationship will be to the two Welcoming Home founders. This position will carry out the following responsibilities in support of the organization’s mission:

1. Ensure tools and supplies are fully stocked for each Welcoming Day (generally no more than three times a month).

2. Assemble Starter Kits for Marin and Sonoma County Welcomings and coordinate pick up/delivery of Starter Kits with volunteers.

3. Maintain inventory of Starter Kit items at Welcoming Home’s storage units located in San Rafael and possibly Santa Rosa. Order items as needed to keep starter kit stock at specified levels.

4. Coordinate drop off/pick up of cleaning kits for starter kits. Ensure sufficient stock of cleaning kits are on hand at all times.

5. Maintain WH storage spaces in an organized manner at all times.

6. Pick up/deliver furniture item(s) that will fit in their personal SUV or larger vehicle.

7. Attend “Welcomings” in Marin County up to two Saturdays every two months, plus up to three times a month total. On Welcoming Days, participate in accepting furniture drop offs and installing furniture etc. in homes.

8. Coordinate ordering/pick up of sandwich orders for volunteers/movers on all Welcoming days.

9. Drop off/pick up tools and supplies to/from volunteers on all Welcoming days.

10. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Strong affiliation with Welcoming Home’s mission

Minimum 2 years work/volunteer experience – non-profit experience a plus

Strong attention to detail/detail orientation

Excellent customer service skills

Basic computer skills (email, Google Docs)

Good team player who can work with a diverse group of people

Resourceful problem solver

Committed and reliable

Tolerance for dealing with last minute changes/catastrophes with composure and good humor

Must have SUV-sized vehicle or larger and ability to pick up and deliver several small furniture pieces (folding tables, nightstands) at one time in Sonoma and Marin Counties.

Must feel comfortable working in a storage unit space

Must be able to carry at least 35 lbs., including up and down stairs.

Location/Work Hours:

1. Work at a storage unit (250 sq. ft) up to 50% of the time, the rest from home or doing pick-ups/deliveries. Participate on site at regular “Welcomings” every other month in Marin County and at off-cycle sponsored Welcoming events in Marin and Sonoma counties.

2. There will generally be no more than one “regular” Saturday Welcoming a month, plus up to two additional sponsored Welcomings a month (not on a Saturday).

3. Work schedule:

a. All Welcoming Days up to 8 hours/day. Average up to 15 hours/week as needed. Actual hours worked vs.15hrs/week calculated just before end of each quarter. 15 hours/week pay guaranteed, any overage during the quarter covered in last quarterly paycheck.

b. Must have ability to pick up/deliver items at least a couple of afternoons and a couple of evenings a week.

c. The two weeks before, and one week following each “Welcoming” Day may require up to 20 hours/week.

4. Travel mileage reimbursement from home to and from the Welcoming Home Marin storage units in San Rafael not covered. Mileage reimbursement from home to Welcoming Day morning site in San Rafael not covered; however, all other mileage for pick-up and delivery, will be covered. All travel time will be paid, except for travel from home to San Rafael storage units and from home to Welcoming Day drop off site in San Rafael. IRS mileage reimbursement rate for non-profits is 14 cents a mile.

5. Must generally be available for quick turnaround projects.
