The Golden Gate Yacht Club Youth Sailing Foundation (GGYC) is seeking a motivated, energetic and dedicated Youth Sailing Coach to help lead the development of youth sailors and foster the growth of sailing within the San Francisco Bay Area. GGYC provides a Youth Sailing Program for San Francisco High School students. Practices are generally on Sunday mornings and Regattas can be both Saturday and Sunday as required.
The Head High School Sailing Coach is responsible for scheduling, designing, organizing and executing activities, practices, and regattas for a variety of sailing skill levels, ranging from novice to fleet racing, and is expected to be active on and off the water.
Primary Roles
Integrate with the GGYC leadership to provide guidance and direction for the development of GGYC high school sailing programs.
Attend a monthly Waterfront Activities Coordination meeting either in person or by video conference as well as, a Quarterly Youth Sailing Foundation
Provide coaching for all skill levels at all practices and regattas with coordination and support of volunteers. This includes travel to Bay area regattas.
Work one weekend day (Sundays) from 9:30 AM to2:00 PM, attend one or two day SF Bay High School regattas as required
Conduct (if required) a one or two week Summer Sailing Camp June or July.
Communicate with parents and community athletic directors to increase participation and recruitment.
Ensure a safe and positive educational environment that focuses on stewardship, teamwork, independence, sportsmanship and fun.
Perform routine maintenance and upkeep on Club/Collegiate FJ fleet and coordinate with GGYC leadership on safety boat routine maintenance
Coordinate with the GGYC Waterfront Director to maintain integrity and safety of club assets and facilities.
Required Skills & Certifications
Ability to coach at High School levels
Ability to operate a range of small sailboats and motorboats safely
Dinghy (Collegiate FJ)fleet racing experience
