Compensation: $35-45 an hour DOE, & Education. Or salary for advanced education.
Position Overview:
A private special education school serving high-functioning students with special needs, is seeking a dynamic and creative Physical Education Teacher with an Occupational Therapy (O.T.) Focus. This unique role combines traditional P.E. instruction with an understanding of occupational therapy practices to support the gross motor development of students in grades K–8th.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and lead daily P.E. classes that integrate O.T. goals and strategies.
Develop and implement activities that support gross motor strength, core stability, bilateral coordination, crossing the midline, balance, and sensory regulation.
Utilize tools such as bikes, monkey bars, climbing walls, ropes, pull-up bars, and other gym equipment to support movement and strength development.
Create and adapt games that promote collaboration, physical fitness, and social-emotional learning.
Collaborate closely with our on-site Educational Therapist and teaching staff to align physical goals with each student’s IEP or therapeutic plan.
Track student progress and contribute to written reports or assessments as needed.
Maintain a structured, inclusive, and enthusiastic environment where students are encouraged to challenge themselves physically and socially.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Occupational Therapy, or a related field education, or athletic field. (required). (enrolled in a program is acceptable)
Experience working with students with special needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum or with sensory processing challenges.
Deep understanding of gross motor development and O.T.-related concepts in a school-based setting.
Energetic, engaging, and able to design fun, skill-building activities that keep students moving and motivated.
Ability to differentiate instruction and modify physical tasks based on individual needs.
