Tej Acton Academy students learn together in a mixed age classroom, bringing the classic one-room school house into the modern age. Students learn to mentor and be mentored by one another. Our Guides (our term for teachers) are not lecturers, but act as facilitators of student growth. We believe each child (and guide) is on a journey to develop a growth mindset and discover a calling.
We are looking for a creative individual who would enjoy making learning fun, engaging and challenging for middle school age students (11-13 years of age) in a mixed age classroom. Guides will use Acton's tools to inspire students to take ownership of their learning, create life-oriented projects and games that nurture curiousity, create and lead thought-provoking Socratic discussions, and monitor progress on learner-driven goals and core subjects (ie- math, science, reading, writing, history, etc.). You will be supported by our amazing team of Guides and founders, and be trained in the Acton model, Montessori philosophy and the Socratic method. Your goal by the 2024-2025 school year will be to ultimately lead your own class. The training and trajectory of a Guide allows one to work up to one day owning their own Acton Academy if that is desired.

About Our School:
Tej Acton Academy, founded in 2020 in San Jose has three mixed-aged classrooms; one for Kindergarten, Elementary and Middle School. Our classes have approximately 10 students in each. The school is affiliated with Acton Academy from Austin, Tx founded in 2009 with over 300 campuses in 30 countries. Our goal is to add High School in the near future.
Preferred Experience and skills:
We are looking for someone with a deep curiosity about life, a lifelong love of learning, and an entrepreneurial spirit (must thrive in a startup environment).
An entrepreneurial mindset and desire to experiment, evaluate, and improve on everything she/he does
A willingness to be coached and mentored
A passion for the Montessori philosophy and the discipline to embody Montessori values at all times. Montessori experience is a plus.
A deep respect for all children and empathy for the challenges children face in their lives
A commitment to practicing gentle, compassionate limit setting
A strong teamwork ethic, a genuine desire to collaborate with colleagues, and a steadfast sense of professionalism
While traditional teaching experience is not required, experience working with children is.
We are seeking a kind heart for children, and trust and respect in their ability to learn and grow without heavy adult intervention. Being an independent worker is a must. Background in working with groups of children is a plus; experience planning and implementing games or projects; coaching or mentoring experience a plus; Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills.
