Supervisor: Clubhouse Director

Status: Seasonal (until August 2nd)

Salary: $19-20 / hour

Job Overview

The pool is an indoor pool located at the Boys & Girls Downtown Clubhouse. The candidate will ensure the safety of all swimmers and assist in classes and other activities conducted in the swimming pool. The candidate will Supervise lifeguards in the absence of the Swim Program Supervisor and Implement directives of the Swim Program Supervisor to ensure an effective and fun Swim Program is being run. Candidates will Cover swim program as needed.

Key Responsibilities

● Enforce all pool rules.

● Ensure that boys and girls shower and are clean before swimming.

● Assist with swimming classes and tests.

● Help organize games and special events in the pool.

● The Swim Instructor is in charge of the pool when the Swim Program Supervisor is out of the pool area

● Observe all safety precautions at all times

● Inspect or assign staff to inspect and keep the shower/restrooms clean of clothes and towels.

● Help maintain the pool and swimmers’ records.

● Assist in other areas of the club when the pool is closed due to weather or other issues. (Appropriate shoes and attire required.)

● Participate in Staff Meetings.● Assist in keeping members aware of the swimming schedule.

● Work assigned hours to maximize pool use; including afternoon and some weekend hours

● The pool is located at the Downtown Clubhouse.

● Other duties may be assigned to meet the needs of the Boys & Girls Club.

Experience and Skills

Must be a current Certified Lifeguard with current First Aid and CPR certificates; must have and maintain a Lifeguarding/ First Aid/ CPR certification. Minimum experience

● At least 2 years of experience as an instructor or lifeguard;

● Must demonstrate safety as the highest priority;

● Must have ability to teach children of all ages;

● Must be able to command control of classes; must be able to organize swim class schedules;● Must be a team player;

● Must be able to assist in training new swimming teachers and lifeguards;

● Must be able to teach front stroke, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and treading water;

● Must be able to communicate well with staff, students and parents;

● Must be able to fill out various skill report forms associated with BGCSCC

● Must be able to work closely with the Swim Program Supervisor in building a world-class Boys & Girls Club of Santa Cruz County swimming program.

● Must be able to manage the entire Swim Program in the absence of the Swim Program Supervisor;

● Must have an active/current LifeGuard Certification

● Must be a good role-model for other staff members and the students;

● Must embrace the Boys & Girls Club motto: “Great Futures Start Here”

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Position requires a high energy level, and ability to perform aquatic tasks and promote the Boys and Girls Club Aquatic Program and activities. Strong interpersonal abilities are needed. Ability to get along with diverse personalities, displaying tact, maturity, flexibility, good reasoning abilities and sound judgment. Physical requirements include sight, hearing, and standing for long periods of time. Skills essential for successful communications include speaking and writing. Position requirements include:

● Walking or standing the pool deck or floor and in the Club as needed

● Good verbal and written communication. (Leading classes, directing swimmers, enforcing rules and guiding staff)

● Hearing – The pool is an indoor pool and is a loud environment

● Observe and monitor swimmers to maintain the safety of all swimmers and non-swimmers.

● Standing – required to stand for sustained periods of time while monitoring children and leading lessons● Sitting – occasionally required to sit for up to 2 hours

● Bending – occasionally required to bend (picking items up off of the floor).

● Pushing & pulling – required to push & pull (items, assisting swimmers, sweeping pool deck as needed, etc.)

● Lifting – occasionally required to lift/move items up to 50 pounds.

● Skills essential for successful communication include speaking and writing.

● Workers will be subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
