A Living Library is a small community nonprofit that demolishes concrete and replaces it with green environments that develop into community spaces linking neighborhoods and schools. With all the distractions around us, it's the perfect time to promote working with our neighbors and the environment that we co-habitat. As a team we plan to learn about the earth and food systems through gardening and community building through raising funds and community awareness.

This summer, A Living Library is looking for another Garden Teacher to compliment our team. This role starts off part time in Summer, 20-30 hours a week, eventually leading to full time by Fall as we expand our program to more schools.

A.L.L. Garden Teacher will work with a team of Educators and the Executive Director to develop Green Skills and Outreach Programs for Eco Stewards, Students and Volunteers. They will also teach students in a school situation. Please email Resume and references.

Here is a description of some of the work you will be involved with:

- Help create in school curriculum and create outdoor classroom activities.

- Teaching kids about nature and gardening from Kindergarten through High School

- Compiling programatic materials necessary for Program Managers and Executive Director to execute Grant Reports.

- Able to develop, train and maintain A.L.L. ECO Stewards and Students.

- Incorporating mindful projects like meditation or art expression in our weekly agendas.

- Help with building and maintaining a public volunteer program.

- Looking for a creative, hardworking, self-starter, team player who can direct and lead.

Qualifications:

- Candidate must have at least a B.A. with a preferred knowledge of Science, California Native Plants, Agriculture, Biology.

- Familiar with nutrition, organic gardening, watersheds, soil, and natural sciences.

- Extensive background in teaching (especially high school and young adults).

- Strong knowledge of California State and Common Core Standards.

- Ability to create outdoor classroom content and develop content related field trips.

- able to carry and/or move 25lbs.

- Reliable transportation.

Desired Qualifications:

- Extensive knowledge of trees- growth and development- companion and succession planting, and soil development.

- strong understanding of California Watershed.

- Carpentry, Digital Media, Video or other Art skills is a plus

- Bilingual Spanish, Cantonese, or Mandarin a real plus.

- Background of insect/pest control.

- Background in Outreach and Recruitment of Candidates.

- Skilled in Classroom Management and Motivational Skills in an outdoor setting.

- Knowledge of using microscopes and other classroom instrumentation.
