Star Academy, a non-profit, non-public school, located in San Rafael, CA, serving students
with learning differences in grades 3-post-secondary, is seeking a Full Time Lead Teacher
for our Post High School program. Star Academy’s mission is to help students with
complex learning differences experience academic success through a multisensory
approach.
Our students face mild to moderate learning challenges such as: dyslexia, executive
functioning deficits, dyscalculia, auditory processing, dysgraphia, ADHD and Autism. Post
high school students all benefit from Star’s calm, nurturing, and supportive environment,
which is conducive to learning. Students in the post high school setting attend classes at the
College of Marin, receive instruction in functional academics, engage in work experience in
the community and cultivate independent living skills through class and community related
activities.
We are seeking a patient, kind and thoughtful educator to work with a team of assistant
teachers and specialists in a Post High School setting.
Candidates will have the following qualifications:
Teaching credential: the ideal candidate will have a clear California Mild/Moderate
Disabilities credential with the Autism authorization. We will also accept a General
Education, multi-subject teaching credential.
Two years of experience working with High School Transition or Post High School
students with learning differences in an educational setting is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Individualized Transition Plans, executive functioning, life skills, and
assistive technology strategies and tools.
Strong classroom management skills.
Strong communication skills.
Duties will include but may not be limited to:
Case management of students with IEPs and privately funded students.
Supervision of Assistant Teachers regarding daily responsibilities, student
monitoring and lesson plan implementation.
Planning, preparing and delivering instructional materials that facilitate a positive
and effective learning experience.
Adapting teaching methods and materials to meet varying student needs and
interests.
Collaborating with specialists to give students opportunities to observe, question
and investigate while practicing various academic and social skills.
Supervising students at the College of Marin and PHS campus during snack break,
lunch and transitions.
Participating in full staff and team meetings.
