Job Overview:
Sterling Driving School is seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a driving instructor. You will be using a company vehicle and traveling to students in Santa Cruz County and teaching all necessary driving techniques while they are behind the wheel. You must be patient, friendly and a qualified good driver with excellent driving practices. This position requires a DMV Driving Instructor's license. We provide the state-required licensing and instructor training if you do not have an instructor license already.
We offer flexible hours and comprehensive training to ensure your success in this rewarding role. We're currently looking for a part-time instructor to work specifically on weekends, and optional weekday afternoons when teens get out of school. Our office headquarters is in Soquel near 41st Ave.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct 2-hr driving lessons practicing the different roadways in Santa Cruz county and following state driving regulations and curriculum standards.
- Provide thorough instruction on vehicle operation, defensive driving techniques, and traffic laws.
- Create a supportive and encouraging learning environment to build students' confidence and skills.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
- Adapt teaching methods to meet individual learning styles and skill levels.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress.
- Ensure the safety of students and vehicles during driving lessons.
- Communicate effectively with students and parents/guardians regarding lesson schedules, progress, and concerns.
- Stay informed about changes in driving laws, regulations, and safety standards.
Requirements:
- Must be 25 years or older with a clean driving record. Background checks will be conducted
- Valid driver's license and willingness to become a licensed DMV Instructor (all certifications paid for by Sterling)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- Previous experience in teaching, coaching, or mentoring preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Location: Santa Cruz County.
- Willing/able to work both weekend days. Our highest demand for lessons are weekends, and weekdays after-school.
- English fluency required, bonus points if you also speak Spanish.
Benefits:
- Starting pay: $21/hr + travel time, with opportunity to increase. (each lesson is 2 hours long, instructor gets paid for 2.5 hours each lesson)
