About the Role:

The Dean of Students, reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, is responsible for leadership and supervision of Student Success for the University, which includes: Behavior Intervention, Career Services and Mentoring, New Student Orientation, Residential Life, Student Life/ Activities, Student Success, a Food Pantry, Career Closet, and an Intercultural Center. This position involves crisis planning and coordination to ensure inclusive student experience. The Dean of Students is responsible for identifying and implementing creative and forward-thinking student services programs and initiatives that address higher educational trends, advancing the mission and strategic direction of the university to positively impact student outcomes, including retention, persistence, and graduation.  

What you will be doing:

Direct reports include: the Sr. Director of Outreach and Cohort Student Services,  

Sr. Director of Career and Life Planning, Student Life Manager, Residential Community Coordinator, student workers, and interns. 

Serves as the BIT/CARE team Chair and will be NABITA trained. 

Oversees the development of a student community that is responsive to student needs and fosters students' intellectual, cultural, social, and interpersonal growth through leadership, program and engagement opportunities, dedicated staff, and proactive advising.  

Provides leadership for Student Success functions that promote civility and an inclusive campus climate. Provides leadership for developing and implementing technology and communication efforts and projects.  

Develop the program outcomes for all student affairs functional areas, monitor assessment of those outcomes, and develop plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes.  

Develops and monitors the department’s long-range strategic plan, using best practices and a strong commitment to internal and external data collection, analysis, and ongoing program evaluation in student affairs. Emphasizes effective use of data analysis to strategically position departmental priorities and resources to support institutional and divisional priorities and ensure desired results and outcomes. This includes developing a full scale student success plan as part of the institution’s overarching strategic plan and one that compliments the strategic enrollment management plan. 

Develops, implements, monitors, and revises policies and procedures relating to the student affairs functional area in collaboration with the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.  

Provides leadership, supervision, training, evaluation, and professional development planning for departmental staff, including graduate and undergraduate student staff. 

Ensures a safe and conducive learning environment and addresses student behavioral issues.  

Plans, budgets, and manages fiscal resources. Leverages limited resources to optimize outcomes. 

Provides leadership and vision for the student affairs functional areas, assures compliance with appropriate federal, state, and institutional policies and professional ethical standards in all areas of functional responsibility.  

Serves as a member of the divisional leadership team. 

Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above, which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position. 

Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in a related field required; doctorate preferred. 

Five years of experience in a related field, with at least three years in a supervisory role. 

Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating student success programs and services. 

Strong understanding of student affairs best practices. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required 

Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures within higher education administration and leadership, student personnel services, student development theory and student learning outcomes, student co-curricular retention models and practices and organizational development. 

Knowledge and experience working successfully and providing leadership within a culturally diverse higher education setting. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 

Strong leadership skills, including employee development and performance management skills. 

Demonstrated conflict resolution skills to react effectively in emergency situations. 

Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. 

Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals. 

Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. 

Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community.

The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is: $165,000 - $195,000 based on experience.
