Caregiver Trainer Job, Home and Community Skills

SITUATION:

Looking for one more Caregiver Trainers to try out focused on Home and Community Skills

for T. T is 25 years old, Non-verbal, Autistic, Intellectually and Developmentally Delayed man.

Caregiver will be needed for 8 hour shift for 7 days per week (Monday through Sunday). You will

provide Training in Activities of Daily Living, Trail Clean-up skills, Art Training, and

Independent Living skills Training with guidance of T’s parents and based upon T's written IPP

goals.

You will have paid training and a rate of $37.00 per hour wage for your first 11 months of

employment. You will be reviewed for an hourly raise during your 11th month of employment.

You must have US Citizenship or Permanent Residency since you will be paid through a

Disabled Self Determination Program (SDP) State/Federal Regional Center budget.

Applicants MUST have experience working with Non-Verbal Autistic or Intellectually and

Developmentally Delayed individuals. Caregiver Trainers MUST have some Sign Language

and/or Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) Device experience. T is non-speaking

and uses modified Signs, Yes/No icon, and IPad software to communicate. T loves outdoor

nature, art, and music. He is continuing his training to be an Abstract Artist, How to Take Care

of Himself, How to clean his bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. You will train T how to correctly

vacuum and mop his home environment to develop his Independent Living Skills. He is

preparing for a Custom Supported Living Environment where he will need three full time staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Personal care and support at T's home and in the community including Independent Living

Skills: Helping him clean his bathroom, clean his bedroom, doing his laundry, vacuuming the

home, mopping floors, teaching basic food preparation, and practicing shopping skills at the

Safeway near his home. Activities of Daily Living include helping him with Dressing,

Grooming, and Toileting on a schedule. Health and Fitness activities include supervising

Basketball, Neighborhood Hikes, Artist Training support, and Practicing Trail Clean-up work.

Ensure T’s safety when crossing streets since he does not fully understand safety protocols and

requires supervision. Facilitate daily routines and Augmentative Communication using AAC

Device, IPad, Sign Language, and Yes/No card. Community outings to Safeway within walking

distance for shopping and taking bus or able to drive to the library, Sunflower Hill and back

while learning community integration skills. You must have sufficient auto insurance that we

will review together. If you drive, you will be paid a separate mileage stipend which is paid

monthly. You will fill out an electronic timecard each day you work with T. You will collect

data when doing training activities that are already created as data applications for your use on

the IPAD.

EXPECTATIONS:

Caregiver Trainer Employees can work up to 8.0 hours per workday according to your individual

schedule. Employees must live in the East Bay in Contra Costa or Alameda Counties from

Martinez North, Hayward West, Livermore East, and Sunol South because of commute

considerations. Maximum hours per week to start are 32 hours during the trial period. We are in

San Ramon in the Gale Ranch Community which is very nature trail and park oriented.

HIRING PROCESS:

Employment Fingerprints Background Check, First Aid Training, and CPR Training required. Credit Check Required!

Family will provide gloves, masks, and sanitizer as needed in the home. There is potential in the

future to work full time with employee benefits. There will be a 4 month training and try out

period that is for your and the families evaluation. This care position is employment at will.

BENEFITS:

 All employees who complete 4 months of consistent (without breaks) employment during

 Part-Time Employees receive a $200 per month Health Insurance Stipend during their 5th

month, once they have worked 4 months consistently or a minimum of 320 hours. PartTime Employment is less than 29 hours per week. In order to keep stipend after 4th month

employee must continue working a minimum of 28 hours per week.

 Full-Time Employees receive a $300 per month Health Insurance Stipend during their 5

th

month, once they have worked consistently for 4 months or a minimum of 480 hours.

Full-Time Employment is greater than 29 hours per week. In order to keep stipend after

4

th month employee must continue to working a minimum of 38 hours per week.

 There is potential for some additional vacation time off for end of year

December/January Holidays that is paid after the 6 months of employment either part-time

or full-time, and this will be offered to those who want to be long term employees which

are needed for T to be independent of his parents in the Custom Supported Living

environment he has as a main goal.
