Open Door is seeking an Assistant for our Youth Ministries to nurture the spiritual growth and confidence of children and youth in harmony with the beliefs and missions of Open Door United Methodist Church. Must be able to exemplify Christian values and faith, demonstrating a love for God and people. Must have experience working with children between 4 through 12 years of age.
Primary Responsibilities:
● Assist the Youth Ministries Director to develop a comprehensive young generation’s ministry program aligned with the United Methodist Church (UMC) principles.
● Assist the Youth Ministries Director to create and implement lesson plans and programs for children and youth each Sunday.
● Assist the Youth Ministries Director to share information about the curricula of the young generation’s ministries and family activities monthly in the church newsletter and on the website.
● Assist the pastor in coordinating and preparing for special and seasonal events for the young generation.
● Be available to provide childcare during special church events as needed; this service will also be compensated based on the number of work hours.
Work Ethic:
● Maintain consistent communication with the pastor, staff, and church members regarding the church’s ministries. In the event of an absence on Sunday, the assistant director is responsible for notifying the pastor no later than Friday.
● Embrace necessary training, including Sanctuary Training, leadership development, skill improvement, self-study, or other methods proven to be effective.
● Participate in an annual evaluation with the pastor and the SPRC (Staff-Parish Relations Committee).
This job is about 3 hours a week which includes both Sunday morning ministry and preparation time during the week. However, it is essential to note that the paid hours can only be counted if the assistant director is present and actively working on Sunday mornings.
