Conservation Works, a nonprofit organization based in Windsor CA, seeks an experienced, highly skilled individual to fill the position of Finance Manager for our major grant programs. This position provides comprehensive oversight of our Wildfire Resilience Program funded by several large federal and state multi-year grants and cooperative agreements, as well as other reimbursement-type grants. The Finance Manager performs a crucial role in advancing local conservation efforts by coordinating grant management activities including invoicing, contracting, reporting, and tracking partner contributions.
The Finance Manager reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for grant financial management, including ensuring compliance with terms of grant and partnership agreements and contracts. Work includes monitoring grant income and expenditures, deliverable timelines, and facilitating accurate documentation. Strong financial tools experience and good communication skills are needed to coordinate with funding agenciesincluding CAL FIRE, USDA-NRCS and multiple partnersto ensure reporting, invoicing and disbursements are timely, accurate, and compliant with grant terms. Specifically, this position involves:
Financial analysis and oversight
Preparation and tracking of invoices, bills, and payments,
Communication with partners, contractors, and grantors on billing and payments
Project milestone tracking and reporting
Development and issuance of Quickbooks Online reports
Providing backup to in-house bookkeeper for coverage during vacations and other absences
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: A community college degree or more in accounting or related financial business field
Experience: At least 5 years of experience in financial operations including oversight of finances and tracking program activities within the agriculture, forestry, environmental or related sectors, 2-years of which experience should be in complex financial management
Financial Acumen: Proven expertise in financial management, including budget development, financial analysis, and reporting.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of contracting procedures, and ability to learn/understand metrics related to forestry and rangeland practices
