Bookkeeper/Tax Preparer

A rapidly growing Accounting firm specializing in serving local small businesses is looking for an experienced bookkeeper. Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Bookkeeping:

-Maintain accurate financial records, including ledgers, journals, and balance sheets.

-Reconcile bank statements and financial accounts regularly.

-Manage payroll processing, including deductions and employee tax filings.

-Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.

-Generate financial reports for management or clients to track business performance.

Tax Preparation:

-Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals or businesses.

-Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.

Client Interaction:

-Meet with clients to gather necessary financial documents for tax preparation.

-Answer client inquiries related to bookkeeping or tax questions.

-Provide guidance on tax deductions, credits, and tax-saving strategies.

Record Keeping & Compliance:

-Ensure that all financial records are in compliance with relevant accounting standards and tax regulations.

-Safeguard confidential financial data.

-Assist with audits if necessary, providing required documentation and explanations.

Required Skills:

-Strong understanding of accounting principles and tax regulations.

-Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Excel.

-Attention to detail and accuracy.

-Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

-Organizational skills to handle multiple clients or tasks simultaneously.

Qualifications:

-Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (preferred).

-Certification as a tax preparer or bookkeeper (e.g., Enrolled Agent, CPA) is a plus.

-Prior experience in bookkeeping or tax preparation is highly desirable.

This role combines both routine bookkeeping tasks and specialized tax preparation, offering an opportunity to work closely with clients and businesses to ensure their financial and tax needs are met.

This is an in-person position in downtown Walnut Creek, next to BART station. Could be Part Time or Full Time.
