A Diesel Mechanic responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered equipment used in frost protection systems, such as wind machines, pumps, and generators. This role ensures that all machinery operates efficiently to prevent crop damage due to freezing temperatures in coastal agricultural areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect, maintain, and repair diesel engines used in frost protection systems.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in wind machines, irrigation pumps, and generators.
Perform preventative maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.
Troubleshoot and repair fuel injection systems, cooling systems, and exhaust systems.
Calibrate and test equipment to ensure optimal performance in cold-weather conditions.
Work with farm owners and operators to schedule routine servicing and emergency repairs.
Maintain accurate service records and log repairs performed on each machine.
Operate specialized diagnostic tools and hand/power tools for mechanical work.
Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Work in various weather conditions and remote agricultural locations.
Qualifications & Skills:
Certification or technical training in diesel mechanics or a related field.
Experience working with diesel engines, agricultural machinery, or industrial equipment.
Strong knowledge of engine diagnostics, electrical systems, and hydraulics.
Ability to read technical manuals and schematics.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical stamina to lift heavy components and work in outdoor environments.
Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred for transporting equipment).
Preferred Experience:
Prior experience in agricultural equipment maintenance.
Familiarity with frost protection equipment such as wind machines and irrigation pumps.
Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
Work Environment:
Outdoor fieldwork in agricultural settings, often in cold temperatures.
May require working at night or during early morning hours during frost season.
Travel to different farm locations may be necessary.
