Part-Time Bilingual Medical Assistant – Women’s Mobile Health Unit
The Women’s Mobile Health Unit (MHU) is a mobile clinic that provides free healthcare services to uninsured women in the Santa Maria and Guadalupe areas. As a Bilingual Medical Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting clinical services and creating a welcoming, respectful environment for each patient.
In this role, you will work closely with licensed providers, clinic staff, and students to support all aspects of patient care. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a dynamic environment, communicates effectively, and enjoys being part of a collaborative, mission-driven team.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Conducting patient intakes (over the phone), preparing exam rooms, and assisting providers during visits, providing Spanish interpretation when needed, coordinating referrals, follow-up appointments, and prescription refills, contacting patients for follow-ups and visit reminders, supporting the team with day-to-day clinic operations, promoting clear communication and patient understanding, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards.

Compensation is 20 to $23, based on prior experience. Part-time, about 10 hours a week.

Responsibilities:
Collect and document medical history, chief complaints, and vital signs
Assist providers during women's health screenings and wellness visits
Prepare exam rooms and ensure a welcoming, clean environment
Coordinate referrals, appointments, medical records, prescription refills, and follow-up calls
Support providers with Spanish interpretation, as experience allows
Communicate effectively to build trust and promote understanding of care plans
Maintain patient privacy and follow HIPAA and professional standards
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED (or equivalent)
Fluent in Spanish with strong communication skills in both Spanish and English
Familiarity with medical terminology, healthcare workflows, and patient-centered care
Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse communities
Reliable availability on Tuesdays (flexibility on other days)
Preferred Qualifications:
California Certified Medical Assistant
CPR certification
Previous experience in a medical or clinic setting
Prior experience providing medical interpretation
Phlebotomy skills
Fluency in an Indigenous language (e.g., Mixtec, Zapotec, Triqui)
Resident of Santa Maria or Guadalupe
Valid driver’s license
