Our client is looking for a senior Lab Compute Lead Windows Design Host to join their team onsite in Santa Clara, CA. Windows Design Hosting:
- Assemble, build, and configure production or development servers of various POR model
- OS installation, network configuration, Virtualization setup including standalone and clustered environment, mainly in Windows environment, but basic Linux and VMware setup are also required
- Identify and trouble shoot Windows environment including cluster setup, knowledge to patching, Windows standard monitoring, power-path setup etc.
- Basic SAN knowledge is a plus
- Basic Knowledge to Microsoft file cluster, SQL database server and IIS servers are required
- Follow documents and established routines / process performing operation tasks with minimum day to day direction
- Gather data with direction from BB and team lead and communicate with business groups as needed
- Using basic windows PowerShell or other script for simple / quick automations
- Working with Vendor on warranty supports etc.
- Network configuration
- Virtualization setup / clustered environment
- Trouble shoot Windows cluster setup
- Microsoft file clustering, SQL database server and IIS servers
- PowerShell or other script simple / quick automations
- All activities including physical touch for installation and break-fix for non-vendor handled issues - this includes all hardware, adds, moves, changes, and EOL
- Vendor contact for break fix including ticket submission and vendor technician escort where applicable
- OS installation and patching as requested with intermediate troubleshooting skills
- Training will be provided by EC for special tools
- Contractors will require privileged access (equivalent to root or admin roles)
- Contractors will follow EC documented procedures
- In some cases they may be asked to document Best Known Methods related to the EC procedures due to the document lifecycle and process evolution
- Use EC tools which help them know what is down and make necessary corrections to repair the systems
- In many cases there is a hardware problem or some type of software problem
- Proactive Break / Fix based on pre-failure analysis (PFA) reports and compliance with target environment metrics concerning PFA under EC guidance
- Work with Hardware vendors to provide appropriate hardware remediation and escort or supervise Field Support Engineers when onsite is needed
- For in-house hardware, contractors may be required to perform hardware failure analysis and parts replacement
- Scheduling and other administrative aspects of appliance EOL and equipment move under EC guidance
- Monitor PFA (EC standard) for QSA hosts
- Log Calls to Client and get them serviced
- Down Host Management: Run Diagnostics on Hosts that are down or have pre-failures
- Basic knowledge of Linux command line
- Ability to run provided and documented commands through sudo
- Ability to run provided scripts in Linux environment, and work with output
- Manage large scale installs of Linux or Windows servers in DC environment using OS provisioning tools such as Altiris or IPPF
