The Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara (AFSB) is seeking a new Part-Time Executive Director to facilitate day-to-day operations, promote the non-profit organization and its mission, and manage the Acheson House and property.

The mission of AFSB is to provide educational programs that promote understanding and appreciation of design excellence in architecture and the built environment. We seek candidates who resonate with this community-based, educational mission and who are interested in working in the non-profit world in coordination with experienced board members who are practicing architects and retired, non-profit professionals. The office is located in the historic Acheson House at 229 East Victoria Street, along with two other non-profit organizations. AFSB has been operating for 40 years with an endowment and an active Board of Directors.

The position is part-time, 20 hours per week, $25.00 to $30.00 per hour DOE; Hours are flexible with occasional evening events. Exact schedule to be determined upon hiring.

General Description of work requirements and responsibilities:

-Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, the AFSB website, and Photoshop are required; knowledge with other programs is beneficial and AFSB will train, such as Airtable (a database management software), Mailchimp, PayPal/Square, and Eventbrite/Evite

-General Office and Administrative work

-Processing of cash, check, and credit card payments

-Database Management of membership status and dues

-Management of Acheson House and property

-Efficient time management, organization, and prioritization skills

-Ability to work independently, creatively, and collaboratively with Board members, volunteers, interns, artists, and the public on the Foundation’s diverse programs, including the High School Design competition, Kids Draw Architecture, the Art Gallery, and Walking Tours

-Critical thinking, good writing and oral communication skills for reporting to the Board of Directors, supporting volunteers, and reaching out to the public

-Initiative in finding and growing new opportunities related to the AFSB’s mission

-Ability to creatively manage AFSB programs in coordination with board members, interns, and volunteers

-Flexibility to adjust office hours to work occasional evening or weekend events

-Assist in coordinating and attending six Board meetings per year and the Annual Retreat

-Prepare and issue program Press Releases, Social Media postings, Event Invitation mailings, and news and announcements for Programs and Gallery openings

-Assist in set-up for events

-Assist in recruiting and retaining members, volunteers and directors, and in fundraising

-Collaborate with other non-profit groups, the public, and others to share the AFSB Mission

-Manage supplies and run errands

-Other duties as assigned
