Position: Kitchen Assistant
Type: Part time, hourly, in-person position
Starting Pay: $19.00 per hour
Location: Santa Barbara
The kitchen assistant will help the kitchen manager of Apples to Zucchini Cooking School to make sure the food preparation areas are clean and hygienic, as well as sorting, storing and distributing ingredients on a daily basis to our Culinary Educators. This will include washing, cutting and cooking ingredients.
Our program offers hands-on cooking classes, teaching children, teens and adults how to prepare nutritious, delicious, and affordable meals made from seasonal and local ingredients. The goals of our cooking classes are to introduce kids to foods they may not be familiar with, teach them how to cook a new recipe, and have them try nutritious food that may become a new part of their diet. The Kitchen Assistant responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:
-Create grocery list
-Maintain kitchen inventory
-Clean the kitchen
-Wash the dishes and put them away
-Help manage food and appliance storage
-Maintain the equipment and supplies of AtoZ.
-Track time in AtoZ communication tool Connecteam.
Apples to Zucchini Cooking School provides the following:
-All equipment and cleaning products necessary to keep the kitchen sanitary and clean
-All tools necessary to ensure compliance with food safety
Qualifications:
-Prior experience working in professional kitchen
-Ability to work independently
-Ability to connect with volunteers
-Exceptional time management, organizational and problem-solving skills
-Sharp attention to detail with an ability to multitask
-Reliable and diligent worker
-Able to deliver positive food messages
-Available in the mornings, when food preparation is necessary
