Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Tool Crib Attendant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a high-volume CNC machine shop environment and be capable of overseeing and streamlining tool crib operations with minimal supervision. AST specializes in manufacturing wheels for off-road, drag racing, motorcycles, and trucks, using CNC lathes.
This role requires a self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Tool Crib Attendant will be responsible for managing inventory, coordinating tool availability, handling procurement, and ensuring machinists have the correct, well-maintained tools to meet production schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
Tool Inventory & Management:
o Oversee the check-in and check-out process for all machine shop tools.
o Track tool usage and maintain accurate inventory records.
o Organize and store tooling, fixtures, and cataloged items systematically.
o Monitor tool wear, identify worn-out or defective tools, and coordinate repairs or replacements.
Procurement & Ordering:
o Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely ordering of required tooling and supplies.
o Process purchase orders (POs) and maintain inventory levels to avoid shortages.
o Perform periodic inventory audits and adjust stock levels based on machine shop demands.
Tool Preparation & Measurement:
o Pull the correct tooling per CNC programmers’ setup sheets, ensuring smooth job starts.
o Inspect and measure tool holders, performing basic repairs and preventive maintenance as needed.
Collaboration & Communication:
o Work closely with CNC machinists, operators, and programming teams to identify tooling needs and address quality or availability issues.
o Communicate effectively with AST engineers and other departments to coordinate tooling requirements and support production efficiency.
o Provide regular updates to management regarding tool crib operations, inventory statuses, and order requirements.
Organization & Housekeeping:
o Maintain a clean, organized, and safe tool crib environment in compliance with workplace safety regulations.
o Update and utilize electronic tool inventory systems or spreadsheets to keep records current.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
o High school diploma or equivalent required.
o 3–5 years of experience as a tool crib attendant or related role in a manufacturing environment.
o Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes, specifically lathes; prior CNC machining experience preferred.
o Familiarity with wheel manufacturing (off-road, drag, motorcycle, truck, etc.) is a plus.
Technical Skills:
o Proficiency in operating and maintaining common machine shop tools (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.).
o Basic computer skills, including MS Outlook and Excel, or similar inventory management software.
Soft Skills:
o Excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities.
o Effective communicator with strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
o Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and move tools or supplies weighing up to 30 lbs.
Regular standing, walking, and occasional bending throughout the shift.
Exposure to a machine shop environment with moderate noise levels, moving mechanical parts, and oils/coolants.
