Carpinteria Unified School District is currently hiring a Payroll Technician to serve in a 12 month confidential position within the District Office.

The position comes with medical, dental, and vision benefits and life insurance.

The Payroll Technician requires specific training in the computation of a variety of technical/clerical payroll transactions, working knowledge of payroll-related computer programs, payroll posting procedures, and general accounting data entry to document and process accounts payable and benefits plan transactions. The Payroll Technician is expected to process certificated and classified payrolls. Advancement to Payroll Technician requires a complete understanding of certificated and classified payroll systems along appropriate laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.

The position requires in-depth technical knowledge of the practices and terminology of payroll accounting and accounts payable practices, clerical and office procedures, and methods, business mathematics and record keeping. Requires knowledge of the laws and regulations governing payroll. Requires working knowledge of spreadsheet programs and in-depth procedural knowledge of the data entry system for payroll and other fiscal information. Requires sufficient knowledge of labor and other contracts to properly interpret and calculate salaries. Requires sufficient human relations skill to convey technical concepts to others and to exercise patience in frustrating exchanges of information. Requires sufficient writing skill to document conversation, prepare memos, and prepare procedures.

The position typically requires completion of a high school curriculum with emphasis in bookkeeping and 4 years experience in the maintenance of financial or statistical records. Alternatively, the position can require two years of college in a business, accounting, or similar discipline requiring math and 2 years of experience.
