POSITION TITLE Host/Host

SUMMARY

Responsible for greeting and seating restaurant guests in a professional, warm and gracious manner and acknowledging all departing guests as well. Takes reservations by telephone; confirms large group reservations prior to the event. Works closely with all managers as required to ensure maximum seating and efficiency of all dining areas. Performs side work as requested

STANDARD

SPECIFICATIONS

Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities.To perform this job successfully, the employee must possess the abilities or aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

1. High school graduate

2. 1+ year customer service experience, preferably in a fine dining restaurant or luxury hotel

3. Knowledge of food & beverage service procedures

4. Fluent in ability to communicate in the English language

5. Experience with Opentable is a must

Desirable:

1. College degree or certificate, or equivalent

2. Luxury hotel guest relations or fine dining experience

3. Knowledge of a foreign language (French or Spanish preferred)

4. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and POS

SKILLS

1. Excellent customer service skills

2. Ability to multi-task simultaneously

3. Excellent verbal communication skills

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

1. Maintain thorough and current knowledge of all restaurant menus, features and hours of operation.

2. Promote positive relations with guests and employees.

3. Maintain confidentiality and security of specified restaurant/guest information

4. Review status of incomplete work and follow-up with appropriate action

5. Promptly greet all arriving guests, thank departing guests and bidding them a pleasant day/evening, using the guest’s name

6. Able to recognize VIP and regular guests by their name

7. Possess a professional, pleasant and helpful attitude toward all guests and colleagues, consistently striving to provide efficient service

8. Seats guests in required manner, pacing walk through dining room with the guest, pull all chairs out whenever possible, ladies’ chairs first

9. Assist in moving guests closer to the table once seated, paying particular attention to elderly guests and children

10. Place napkins in laps, hands menus to each guest

11. Answer all telephone calls and responds appropriately as needed

12. Well versed with all menus, prices, dress code, directions to the establishment, accepted form of payment, hours of restaurant operation, room capacity and all guest-related services

13. Records all reservations for the the resaurant as directed, confirms reservations in advance of the guests’ arrival as required; refers all special requests to the manager on duty

14. Reviews future bookings and reservations on a regular basis; advises the manager(s) and/of chef(s) immediately of any changes

15. Utilizes rotation of stations in seating guests to ensure a smooth, even flow of diners in each station

16. Maintains a constant awareness of the entire dining room, assesses and appropriately handles any situation to ensure the guest’s satisfaction

17. Maintains the host area and closet areas neat, orderly and well-stocked with supplies; secures items at closing

18. Maintains and inspects all menu holders to ensure clean, current regular and tasting menus are placed into inserts

19. Assists in recognizing underage guests by pulling wine glass as guests are seated

20. Records daily information in the host logbook and communicates vital information to other hosts and managers

21. Ensures the host station and telephones are covered by alternate staff upon leaving the floor

22. Walks through dining room on a regular basis to assess table dining progression to maintain an accurate wait and reservation list

23. Assist management whenever called upon

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

1. Assist managers on special holiday projects with floor plans and reservation set-ups and other strategies
