Classroom Teacher Job Description

Elementary School Teacher

Required Qualifications: Must possess a valid California Multiple Subject teaching credential and CLAD or BCLAD or equivalent.

Proof of NCLB (No Child Left Behind) subject matter competence

Reports To: Principal

Summary

To create a class environment conducive to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with students; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to learn and advance.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must be a highly qualified and competent teacher, who has the ability to teach young children.

Has a strong commitment to the education and welfare of students.

Must be familiar with and able to teach using the New California Standards.

Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.

Establishes and maintains a standard of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.

Evaluates each pupil's development and keeps appropriate records.

Maintains professional competence through participation in staff in-services, trainings and education and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.

Cooperates with staff members as needed to establish or improve learning methods.

Familiar and competent in the integration of technology in teaching methods and curriculum.

Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationship with others, including co-workers, parents, and community members.

Willingness and ability to communicate effectively with students and adults in a respectful and caring manner.

Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.

Selects and requisitions books and instructional materials, maintains required

inventory records.

Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day.

Administers tests in accordance with the state testing program.

Participates in curriculum development programs as required.

Work with administrators and staff at school site to coordinate lessons and performance schedules.

Evaluate each pupil’s development in the curriculum being taught and prepare necessary reports.

Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.

Supervises students in out-of classroom activities during the assigned work day.

Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs with the school.

Plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistant and other paraprofessionals.

Read and stay abreast of school policies and procedures, reading updates, bulletins, memos e-mails and other communication in a timely manner.

Implement and follow individual student plans, behavior contracts, 504s and IEPs

Attend IEPs, participate and effectively contribute to school committees, child study and IEP meetings

Develop data driven instruction based on the results of formal and informal assessments

Implement District curricula, programs and philosophies with fidelity.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.

Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.

Ability to see for purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies, and other printed

matter and observing students.

Ability to hear and understand speech at normal speech levels.

Ability to bend and twist, stoop, kneel, run and crawl. Ability to reach in all directions.

Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Ability to carry up to 25 pounds.

Moderate to high stress levels.

Work is predominantly in school environment.

Climate is normal; occasional adverse weather conditions.

Regular contact with students, teachers, school staff, district staff, parents and community

Members

Ability to meet deadlines and be punctual

Teacher must be dynamic, polite, respectful, organized, and possess effective and positive communication skills and classroom management. CPR certification required

Work Environment: Elementary school classroom

Work Year: 185 contract days, 180 days of instruction, 5 non-student days
