Also assists the 9168 Transit Ambassador Supervisor II with a variety of duties related to the activities of the Muni Transit Ambassador Program (MTAP) unit.EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:According to Civil Service Commission Rule 409, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code and are not intended to be an inclusive list.

Supervises, motivates, and evaluates personnel to ensure operational efficiency. Provides feedback, coaching and counseling to encourage satisfactory performance as well as any disciplinary action.

Ensures coverage of transit routes, manages staff attendance, and coordinates on-site and remote activities during emergency situations.

Assists the 9168 Transit Ambassador Supervisor II with daily operations of Muni Transit Ambassador Program and special events.

Provides field training for staff, assists with training development, recommends training revisions, and conducts ride alongs.

Compiles data, prepares and reviews various reports, and analyzes and maintains records and reports.

Assists with training on policies and procedures consistent with the current rules and regulations of SFMTA.

Receives, investigates, responds to, and/or resolves complaints from internal staff, external stakeholders, and the public regarding MTAP. Reviews incident reports, requests and reviews video pulls of incidents, and recommends solutions to prevent future incidents.

Ensures equipment is operated safely and within guidelines and coordinates equipment and material distribution.

Monitors and adjusts staff work assignments whenever applicable.

Participates in a variety of committees and liaises with SFUSD staff to reduce youth violence and other disruptive behavior on the transit system. Provides safety presentations to diverse audiences.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Special Requirements: in order to perform essential functions of the class, Transit Ambassador must be able to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time; uneven terrain and unstable surfaces; climbing stairs; work in inclement weather, repetitive exiting/entering vehicles; exposure to hazards and working in the proximity of moving vehicles. May be required to lift/bend and move barricades weighing up to 40 pounds and wear equipment weighing up to 10 pounds while working. Employees will be required to carry and use a hand-held radio. Duties sometime involve interacting with the public under hostile conditions. Employees must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Employees are required to wear departmental issued uniform and safety gear.EducationPossession of a High School Diploma, GED or California High School Proficiency Certificate; ANDExperienceSuccessful completion of the SFMTA Transit Ambassador training program; ANDTwo (2) years of full-time post training field experience equivalent to a 9166 Transit Ambassador within the Muni Transit Ambassador Program (MTAP), including routinely riding transit lines, assisting with passenger boarding/disembarking, deescalating conflicts while on transit lines, providing transportation directions to customers, answering service-related questions, and providing service support; ANDLicense and Certification:Possession of a valid CA Driver’s License at the time of appointment.SubstitutionCompletion of an equivalent ambassador training program from another transit agency which includes routinely riding transit lines, assisting passenger boarding/disembarking, deescalating conflict while on transit lines, providing transportation directions to customers, answering service-related questions, and providing service support may substitute for the SFMTA Transit Ambassador program. Training curriculum may be requested to ensure equivalency.One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours. (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week.) The Supplemental Questionnaire is designed to measure the following knowledge, skills and/or abilities that candidates possess in job-related areas, which has been identified as essential for this position and include, but not limited to: knowledge of transit rules, regulations, and policies; knowledge of safety and emergency policies and procedures; knowledge of customer service principles and practices; ability to effectively interact with the general public; ability to prepare accurate records, reports and memoranda; ability to effectively schedule, coordinate, monitor, evaluate and train subordinates; and ability to prepare materials for instruction. It is important that the information provided on the supplemental application be accurate and complete. All statements made on the application materials and supplemental questionnaire examination are subject to verification.Candidates must achieve a passing score in order to be placed on the eligible list/score report.Eligible List/Score Report:A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Director of Transportation or the Civil Service Commission.The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be 24 months and may be extended with the approval of the Director of Transportation.Terms of Announcement and Appeal Rights:Applicants must be guided solely by the provisions of this announcement, including requirements, time periods and other particulars, except when superseded by federal, state or local laws, rules or regulations.
