With a staff of approximately 450, reaching peaks of nearly 600 with seasonal hires, a budget of $54.3 million, and a current governing board of 27, this venerable, fully-accredited, independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit addresses some of the most pressing community needs – homelessness, generational poverty, immigration, inequality, hunger, aging in isolation, and communicable disease to name a few – with compassion and services of highest quality.PROGRAM & POSITION SUMMARYPeter Claver Community is a comprehensive medical residence for chronically homeless individuals living with disabling HIV/AIDS. Opened in 1985, the program marked one of the earliest attempts by an organization to aggressively serve those sick and dying from HIV/AIDS.Peter Claver Community provides permanent placement and comprehensive care to 32 San Francisco residents who have disabling HIV/AIDS, are very low income, homeless and/or struggle with major psychiatric disorders or substance abuse challenges. To minimize the utilization of hospital emergency rooms, crisis services and other publicly funded health systems, the staff is able to address most problems on-site.The On call Food Service Worker prepares meals and snacks for the residents of Peter Claver Community.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare and serve meals according to the set menu plan.

Prepares and serves two meals a day and has food available for residents during the day.

Maintain cleanliness and ensure safety in the kitchen, dining and food areas.

The ability to train and oversee volunteers and staff assisting in food preparation and clean up.

Serve as an assistant to the Food Service Coordinator, providing shift back up and other support as needed.

Educational requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience of two years in the preparation of food for large groups in a commercial or residential setting, with training in nutrition or food preparation program desirable.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

Knowledge of food handling and preparation safety required.

Sensitivity to the resident population.

Assignment to other than normal day shift hours that can include weekend, and holiday shifts.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and work cooperatively in a team environment.

Ability to train and direct the work of volunteer or staff is required.

Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations.
