Job description

Technical Consultant – Point of Sale Systems – San Diego, CA

Rapid POS provides Point of Sale systems to retail stores throughout North America. We have a full-time position open for a Technical Consultant II. This position is ideal for a certified tech with at least three years of help desk or network administration experience. Ideally, you are ready to grow while remaining extremely hands-on.

You and your team will help clients resolve problems with servers, point-of-sale terminals, database servers, peripherals, desktop computers, operating systems, etc. We host many of our larger clients’ servers in a Hyper-V environment, so you will also work on virtualized, multi-tenant servers. You’ll become an expert with our point-of-sale software – NCR CounterPoint.

This position has constant telephone contact with our clients. If you’re seeking a pure tech position with little people contact, then this job is not for you. If you have great people management skills and enjoy helping other resolve their technical problems, then you’ll be a perfect fit.

About Our Company

Rapid Point of Sale (www.rapidgunsystems.com, www.rapidgardenpos.com ) serves small and medium-sized retailers throughout North America. We strive each day to be the best possible partner to our clients. We earn their trust by being both highly competent and highly trustworthy.

We are headquartered in San Diego, California and also have staff in India, the Philippines, and various locations throughout the USA. We’re a growing company with a closely-knit staff of around 50 people, and we all enjoy what we do. To be successful, we are always looking for better ways to do things, and flexibility is the name of our game. This includes wearing various hats on a day-to-day basis and having flexible schedules. Diversity & spontaneity are sought. Some people prefer working for large companies so that they have structure and develop deep skills in a single area of expertise. We're the opposite - we want people who enjoy variety and take pride in understanding how things work from end-to-end.

Rapid POS knows that providing outstanding service to its clients requires outstanding staff. That’s why we offer our employees great benefits, such as paid time off, paid holidays, 401K, health insurance, and more. We also want you to enjoy a fun, diverse work environment, which means we do not tolerate harassment or discrimination based on age, race, marital status, religious affiliation, or sexual orientation.

About This Opportunity

Rapid POS is currently looking for a skilled individual to fill our full-time Technical Consultant II position. This individual will be responsible for rolling out POS software & hardware to various retailers and supporting these stores after they are live.

Major duties:

This position will provide an opportunity to learn all aspects of application and infrastructure support. You won’t find a job that provides a broader base of experience and this is why we believe the position is perfect for an experienced tech who is eager to work “outside of the box”. Be eager to start making your mark and we’ll give you every opportunity to grow.

TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

- administer windows servers

- manage and troubleshoot hyper-v virtualized servers, RDGW & RDGW servers, DB Servers, 2-factor authentication, etc.

- answer inbound support calls and e-mails accurately documenting ticket details throughout support lifecycle.

- rolling out software and configuring unique peripherals to work with that software such as barcode scanners, electronic scales, signature capture, etc.

- Understand MS Server & SQL Server Licensing

- Manage shipping and receiving of all POS hardware for all of our clients. Also, maintain an organized storage room for spare hardware, parts, etc.

- Perform intermediate troubleshooting of MS SQL Server databases. You are not expected to be a programmer nor a DBA, but you should feel comfortable digging into a database’s data tables to root out a data issue that is preventing the application from working correctly.

- Handle escalated peripheral problems (receipt printers, scales, credit card readers, barcode scanners, etc).

- Design automated fixes for common problems and test those fixes after a programmer provides the code.

- Address hard-to-identify networking / routing problems. Be comfortable configuring any aspect of a commercial grade router.

- Understand proper configuration and management of anti-virus software, image based back-up software, email servers, & our RMM tool (https://www.connectwise.com/software/automate).

MANAGEMENT SKILLS:

- Show a high degree of application and business acumen. Inspire our clients and junior members on your team.

- Effectively handle clients that are “hot” using the opportunity to turn the client from a detractor to a promoter. Engage multiple Rapid departments when necessary – coordinate with those departments to assure effective resolution.

- A preference for work in a growing company where things are dynamic, evolving, and more loosely defined rather than a mature environment that is static and highly standardized.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED

- 4 Year College Degree or equivalent work experienced combined with strong certifications.

- 3 or more years’ experience on a help desk that addresses server, workstation, and networking issues. Ideally a portion or all of this experience was gained working a help desk for a Point of Sale System.

- Progressive responsibilities that show you are a senior, critical player on your team.

DESIRED

- Experience working in a retail store (even if the was done when you were a teenager). Retail industry knowledge gained while “doing the job” vastly increases your credibility with our clients.

- Certifications: Network +, A+, MCSA, CCNA, PCI QIR
