Position Summary:
The Veteran Certification & Compliance Coordinator is responsible for certifying CMU students receiving military education benefits, maintaining compliance with VA, DoD, and institutional policies, and supporting regulatory and institutional reporting requirements. This position also supports broader compliance functions and must be familiar with federal financial aid processes and programs, including the Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) program.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the School Certifying Official (SCO) for VA educational benefits.
Certify student enrollment and tuition through VA platforms (VA-ONCE or current VA system).
Ensure compliance with Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Department of Defense (DoD), and institutional accrediting bodies (DEAC, BPPE).
Coordinate with Admissions, Registrar, and Financial Aid departments to ensure accurate and timely certification of military and veteran students.
Maintain accurate records for all VA-funded students, including those under Chapter 33 (Post-9/11 GI Bill®), Chapter 31 (VR&E), Chapter 30, and others.
Assist with internal and external audits involving VA, DEAC, BPPE, and Department of Education.
Support students using VR&E and liaise with counselors and agencies as needed.
Remain current on VA, VR&E, and federal financial aid regulations and best practices.
Assist the Financial Aid team in coordinating benefits with Title IV funding where applicable.
Maintain confidentiality and accuracy in handling student and financial records.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience working in higher education, student services, or financial aid strongly preferred.
Familiarity with VA educational benefit programs, including VR&E.
Understanding of federal financial aid (Title IV) processes.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and student information systems (CampusVue experience a plus).
Ability to interpret complex policies and ensure institutional compliance.
