Project AWARE (Attitude When Angry and Resolving Emotional Issues Non-Violently) is community-based organization that offers Credible Messenger Mentoring and other services to youth and young adults who have been impacted by systems, including the justice systems. Using the Credible Messenger Model, Project AWARE uses restorative talking circles to help these young people learn problem-solving and emotional literacy skills and strengthen their social

development.

Project AWARE Enterprises, Inc. is currently looking for Community Mentors/Credible Messengers to join our team. Community Mentors/Credible Messengers with our organization have lived experience in the Justice System and serve as a role model to justice involved youth on juvenile probation to assist in the youth’s rehabilitation and in reduction of recidivism.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Participate in preparation of mentee/s personal case plan

Monitor and track mentee’s progress and share with lead mentor

Work with mentees and families to assist them in meeting their needs

Maintain professional boundaries

Build and maintain connections to existing community-based assets and supportive services

Participate in collaborative team meetings

Refer mentees for training for employment

Identify assets and experiences outside of the mentee’s neighborhood

Be available for intensive support, advice, and guidance during twice weekly group sessions, outside the sessions, and as otherwise specified in the mentee’s personal case plan

Ensure mentee is enrolled in school, community college or career or vocational training if included in personal case plan

Collaborate with HHSA personnel to access services applicable to mentees and their families

Lead interactive journaling, participate in other group/social activities with mentees and provide one-on-one mentorship

Perform other duties as assigned

Actively seek, lead and participate in various community events

Willingness to perform additional tasks as needed

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience and Certifications):

At least 18 years old

Experience with and respect for diverse cultures

Experience in youth, family and community development methods

Experience in program development and contract compliance issues

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of communities that mentees live in

Computer literacy

Knowledge of local resources and services

Ability to manage multiple demands and priorities

Ability to prepare written and oral reports and communicate in a wide variety of public forums
