The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank is currently hiring a regular full time Communications & Marketing Associateto join our Communications team.This position is responsible for supporting the Communications & Marketing Manager and the Vice President of Communications, Marketing & Public Affairs in creating, executing and managing organizational marketing and communications strategies to increase awareness about hunger in the community and the Food Bank’s mission. The position will support the Food Bank’s engagement with supporters, donors, volunteers, our client population and the wider community. The role will assist in the implementation and daily management of communications and marketing strategies with an emphasis on the Food Bank’s website(s), social media platforms and digital marketing program. In addition, the position will assist in the development of online content, in-house videography and creative assets.

Assist the Communications & Marketing Manager in developing and executing plans for social media driven campaigns in support of brand and marketing initiatives.

Provide daily support managing and developing content for the Food Bank website(s) including copy, graphics, videos, programmatic information and updates.

Support in the production of videography for the Food Bank that includes but is not limited to creating Food Bank informational videos, filming interviews, filming check presentations, creating live streaming videos, filming news conferences and filming B-Roll.

Assist in the management of stand-alone websites for external food bank campaigns and events as needed including the San Diego Blues Festival and San Diego Run for the Hungry.

Develop content for the Food Bank’s social media platforms which includes: developing monthly plans and event calendars and enhancing support for Food Bank campaigns and programs through social media.

Create social media calendars for major campaigns including seasonal food drives, fundraising campaigns, and events such as the San Diego Blues Festival, the annual Run for the Hungry and the Food Bank’s annual gala.

Assist in the creation of presentations, including but not limited to Power Point, for the Food Bank’s CEO in support of the CEO’s public outreach and awareness efforts.

Assist the Communications & Marketing Manager with the implementation of program-specific, multi-channeled, integrated-marketing and communication plans for the Food Bank.

Update, as needed, existing branded materials and collateral for Food Bank programs, campaigns and events.

Assist the Communications & Marketing Department with brand management and increasing brand equity.

Assist the Communications & Marketing Department with the Food Bank’s government relations program which includes, but is not limited to, researching and providing briefings on government affairs and food bank public advocacy campaigns among elected officials at the local, state and national level.

Assist with the tracking and archiving of media coverage (television and online) during seasonal food drive campaigns, fundraising campaigns, and events to be included in media impact reports shared with staff, board members and corporate sponsors

Assist the Communications & Marketing Department in managing the Food Bank’s electronic communications program with multiple stakeholder groups including food donors, volunteers, nonprofit agencies, donors and supporters.

Manage marketing assets, such as, electronic files for photos, brochures, flyer, HTML, email, etc.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIESKnowledge of

Superior written (including proofreading and editing) and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), website development (WordPress and Wix), Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat) and all major social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn).

Preferred: Knowledge of Facebook Business Manager, Google Marketing Platform, and email systems (MailChimp/ Constant Contact).

Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work effectively under pressure with tight and often competing deadlines.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Ability to understand and analyze trends.

Skills in photography, videography, and video editing using nonlinear editing software for promotional purposes in-house.

Ability to

Able to write clear, lively, engaging and compelling copy in a variety of styles that are appropriate to target audiences and/or the broader public, while ensuring adherence to the Food Bank’s mission statement and values.

Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization including members of the Board of Directors.

Able to work within a team atmosphere

Exercise tact, objectivity, sensitivity, strategy, and sound judgment with a variety of people in a variety of situations.

Ability to perform and function with minimal direction and oversight.

EDUCATION, TRAINING and EXPERIENCEA typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outline above is graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in communications, advertising, marketing, public relations, or related field; and at least 1 to 2 years of progressively responsible experience in a similar position; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A valid California Driver’s License

Must have own vehicle and will receive monthly reimbursements for mileage

Highly preferred: Website development (WordPress and Wix), Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat).

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

This position regularly requires OT, weekend shifts, long hours

This position is required to travel 50% of the time; travel is primarily local during business days to various events and assignments.

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time, non-exempt position that will work 40 hours a week. The compensation for this position will range from $20.00-$22.00 per hourbased on experience. The compensation package includes an excellent benefits package including: 403(b) plan with 200% employer matching; excellent health care coverage with free employee medical, dental and vision plans; company paid term life insurance; and a generous accrual of paid vacation and sick leave.
