Direct Support Professional Job Description
The duties and responsibilities of Direct Support Professionals shall be:
Responsible for the direct supervision, care and training of all consumers.
Responsible for assisting consumers in attending to their personal care and hygiene, as needed.
Responsible for supervising the self-administration of resident medications, per the physician’s orders.
Responsible for assuring the care and supervision of consumers in any emergency by utilizing appropriate emergency measures, such as calling 911, the Police or fire department, or other agencies.
Responsible for proper preparation, handling and serving of meals.
Responsible for carrying out daily activities and programs as designed by the Administrator.
Responsible for the cleanliness and laundry needs of the facility.
Responsible for the provision of services to the consumers required or identified by their needs and services plans and Individual Program Plan (IPP).
Responsible for maintaining daily written documentation.
Shall be present and able to perform duties during all scheduled hours. Night staff are not allowed to sleep during their working hours
Other duties as assigned by the Licensee, Administrator, or House Manager.
Direct Support Professionals shall have the following minimum qualifications:
At least 6 months experience working with Level 3 consumers in a residential setting. In the absence of such experience additional training will be provided within the first 6 months of employment.
Must have DSP1 and RBT certificates
High School diploma or GED.
Knowledge of the requirements for providing the type of care and supervision needed by consumers, including ability to communicate with such consumers.
Knowledge of and ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Maintain a current First Aid certification.
Shall be in good health, and shall be physically, mentally, and occupationally capable of performing assigned tasks. Good health shall be verified by a health screening, including a test for tuberculosis.
Shall complete an employment application containing the following information:
1. Full name.
2. Copy of photo ID verifying age and identity.
3. Date of employment.
4. Current address and phone number.
5. Documentation of educational background, training and/or experience, if applicable.
6. Criminal Record Statement (LIC 508).
7. W-4.
8. Employment Eligibility (I9).
9. Statement Acknowledging Requirement To Report Suspected Abuse Of Dependent Adults And Elders (SOC 341A).
10. Dependent Adult and Elder Abuse Video (within 60 days of the date-of-hire).
