Senior Mechanic - 2nd shift (2PM to 10PM)

Conducts corrective and preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of cGMP production equipment, QC equipment, and R&D equipment. Responsible for executing maintenance activities across multiple buildings and processes. The position works closely with equipment owners, external vendors, and other departments to ensure instrumentation is maintained per defined procedures, schedules, and in compliance with regulatory standards. Provides training and qualification to entry level maintenance mechanics. Assignments may be complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in solving problems and making technical recommendations. This position is required to be available for overtime and on-call work. Depending on the area of assignment, may be required to work various shifts including first, second, third, or weekend shifts.Shift: Second Shift – 2PM to 10PMPrimary responsibilities for role:

Qualified to perform all basic and advanced in-house maintenance procedures

Troubleshoots Mechanical and Electrical related issues on manufacturing equipment.

Assists with scheduling preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize impact to manufacturing operations

Performs complex repairs and preventive maintenance activities with minimal supervision.

Supports investigation and resolution of technical issues related to on-site equipment and systems.

Responds within given timeframe to service requests from equipment owners, communicates status updates, and documents in work order summary.

Utilizes SAP and Maximo Computerized Maintenance Management System to track and document all maintenance activities. Reviews work of entry level mechanics.

Makes necessary repair and/or adjustments to manufacturing equipment with minimal supervision

Leads small-medium improvement projects and supports larger project teams to implement maintenance program and procedure improvements.

Provides leadership and trains all entry level technicians on maintenance procedures and in the theory and operation of all equipment.

Recommends solutions to reoccurring issues, identifies process improvement opportunities, and partners with Engineering to implement solutions.

Supports Engineering group with continuous process improvements projects and makes recommendations to improve equipment reliability, process cycle times, and reduce scrap.

Executes equipment validations (IQ/OQ) and documents all activities following Good Documentation Practice.

Documents Equipment and Engineering activities in accordance to established procedures, company policies and FDA

Responsible for maintaining Manufacturing, QC and R&D equipment and instruments per defined procedures.

Assist with improving spare parts program needed to support Manufacturing, QC, and R&D areas

May travel to other local sites to execute maintenance and repair activities

Follows established safety and environmental guidelines and procedures for all work performed. Immediately reports safety and environmental incidents including injuries, illnesses, near misses, and safety suggestions.

Support retrieval of documentation for audit requests and ensures all completed documentation is audit ready.

Depending on area of assignment may be required to work on-shift including first (day), second (swing), third (grave), and weekend shifts.

Acts as lead in situations where Lead Mechanic is not on shift.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings and electrical schematics.

Overall knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, refrigeration, electrical systems, controls, and maintenance methods. Specializing in at least two.

Strong troubleshooting skills on various equipment and systems.

Ability to learn good manufacturing practices and follow established procedures and regulations.

Ability to work independently and complete complex activities on time per the production schedule.

Ability to interact well with others in a team environment. Strong organizational skills and time management skills.

Experience using documents and quality control procedures which include best practices.

Direct hands-on experience in maintaining automated mechanical equipment.

Strong organizational skills and time management skills.

Ability to use Microsoft based platforms and/or company Intranet and e-mail.

Ability to use Building Management System (BMS) and Manufacturing Control System (MCS) including Siemens, Allen Bradley systems.

Experience with machine vision system (Cognex, Keyence, etc.) a plus

Working knowledge of SAP, Maximo or similar ERP platforms to track all plant maintenance and calibration activities.

Strong problem-solving, judgment and decision-making skills

General knowledge of shop tool operation and safety.

Available to work overtime when necessary including On-Call program.

Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish).

Available to support Manufacturing tasks as needed on shift (e.g. Packaging).

Education:

High School degree

Experience:

3-5 years general maintenance experience.

1-2 years’ experience in biotech/pharmaceutical regulated facility.

Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.

Experience with Filling Machines and Labelers, Packaging equipment, Water systems, Refrigeration or similar/related equipment highly preferred.

Equivalency:

Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements.

Occupational Demands:

Schedule includes Monday-Friday 8 hour shifts with potential to work overtime and possibly weekends

Must be available for On-Call support

Expected to be on feet for 8 hours a day.

Climb heights up to 5-15 feet by ladder.

Lift up to 40lbs may be required.

Environment requires that gowning in the form of hospital scrubs, bunny suits, gloves and steel toe boots be worn. Also, no make-up or jewelry can be worn when working in the clean room environment.

Work in clean room environment with large mechanical equipment, piping, and pumps connecting to tanks serviced by high-pressure steam, water and air together this creates a loud environment.

Work with electrical systems 480VAC and below

Work with hazardous materials and chemicals.

Work on automated fill machines

Work on reverse osmosis systems

Work on refrigeration systems

Wear air purifying respirator and wear necessary hearing protection.

Crawl, kneel and stoop and work in small work spaces.

Must be able to work in cold environments inside cold rooms and freezers for extended periods.

Pay ScaleThe estimated pay scale for this Senior Mechanic role based in San Diego, CA, is $32.79 to $40.99 per hour. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 5% of the company bonus pool.
