Description Overview:Join our dynamic healthcare team in San Diego as a Financial Counselor. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting patients and their families in navigating the financial aspects of their healthcare journey. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that patients understand their financial obligations, have access to available resources, and can make informed decisions regarding their healthcare expenses.Responsibilities:
Patient Financial Education: Provide clear and comprehensive explanations of insurance coverage, copayments, deductibles, and other financial aspects related to healthcare services.
Assistance with Financial Aid Programs: Guide patients in exploring and applying for financial assistance programs, including Medicaid, Medicare, and other state or federal assistance programs.
Verification and Authorization: Verify insurance coverage, obtain pre-authorizations, and assist patients in understanding coverage limitations and requirements.
Billing and Payment Processing: Collaborate with billing departments to ensure accurate and timely billing. Assist patients in setting up payment plans and exploring financing options if needed.
Financial Counseling: Offer individualized financial counseling sessions to address patients' concerns, answer questions, and provide support in managing healthcare expenses.
Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate records of financial counseling sessions and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and policies.
Community Resources: Stay updated on local resources and assistance programs available to patients, and provide referrals as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, healthcare administration, or related field.
Experience in financial counseling or patient financial services within a healthcare setting preferred.
Strong understanding of healthcare billing and insurance procedures.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to empathize with patients and families facing financial challenges.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and healthcare billing software.
