Accounts Payable Manager

Description Are you an experienced accounting professional with a passion for making an impact in the nonprofit education sector? Our client, a respected organization in San Diego, CA is seeking a dedicated Accounts Payable Manager to oversee their AP operations. This is a great opportunity for a detail-oriented and process-driven individual who enjoys working in a mission-focused environment.Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and mentor the accounts payable team, providing guidance and training to ensure efficient and accurate workflows.

Oversee the end-to-end accounts payable process, including reviewing and approving invoices, batch posting, and payment distribution (checks, ACH, and wire transfers).

Build strong relationships with vendors, ensuring timely responses to inquiries and resolution of any billing discrepancies.

Reconcile AP subledger to the general ledger and assist in month-end and year-end financial close activities.

Lead initiatives to streamline AP processes, implement best practices, and ensure alignment with organizational policies.

Ensure adherence to accounting policies and compliance with nonprofit regulations. Generate reports and assist with audits related to accounts payable.

Oversee employee expense reimbursements and corporate credit card reconciliations, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.

Work closely with other departments to ensure alignment of AP activities with operational goals.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience in accounts payable leadership will be considered.

5+ years of accounts payable experience, with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role.

Prior experience in the nonprofit or education sector is a strong plus.

Knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar platforms).

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as pivot tables and VLOOKUP.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with a collaborative mindset.

Understanding of nonprofit accounting, grant management, and IRS Form 1099-MISC/1099-NEC preparation is preferred.
