Come join the Guest Experience Team at the San Diego Air & Space Museum!

The San Diego Air & Space Museum is looking for high energy, self-motivated individuals who seek to create wonderful experiences for our guests, promoting an atmosphere of engaging, fun, and immersive content for visitors from around the world. The museum is an experience, specifically articulated through the lens of aerospace history and continued achievement.

This is a part-time position, 2-4 days a week, approximately 9:30am-5:00pm. Perks include complimentary access to our museum for your family, employee discounts at our store and cafe, and free admission to other Balboa Park museums for employees.

The Guest Experience Team involves several different areas of the museum. Any of the following may be involved in a normal shift. This is a general overview:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ADMISSIONS

Interacting with the public and providing accurate and proactive information regarding the museum, Balboa Park, and San Diego.

Opening and closing the admissions desk cash register. This involves cash handling, operating a POS system accurately, balancing the cash register, and recording all admissions transactions and media.

Ticket sales, processing various types of museum passes, and enticing guests to upgrade their general admission tickets to a museum membership or a park-wide explorer pass.

EXHIBIT FLOOR

Answering questions and assisting guests in their use of interactive exhibit elements. Provide general information, context, and basic exhibit interpretation for guests.

3D/4D THEATER

Operating the 4D theater. This includes speaking to crowds of guests to introduce the films, organizing waiting guests into orderly lines, operating the push-button controls, maintaining general cleanliness of the theater seats and auditorium. Also maintaining order and general cleanliness in the adjacent “Kids Aviation Action Hangar.”

SIMULATORS

Operating the interactive motion simulators. This includes selling tickets for the simulators (cash handling, POS system use and accuracy, register balancing, etc.), opening, closing, directly operating and monitoring several different computer-based simulators, explaining controls to guests in a succinct and easily understood fashion, demonstrating competency in the playing of the various flight simulator games, maintaining a safe and orderly environment in the simulator area at all times.

GIFT SHOP

Opening and closing a small retail environment. Selling, cash handling, operating a POS system accurately, balancing the cash register, maintaining inventory and re-stocking as needed, dusting, light vacuuming, maintaining a clean and orderly environment.

FLIGHT PATH GRILL

Food handling, cash handling, POS system accuracy, cash register balancing. Delivering orders to tables, accurately communicating guest requests to kitchen, wiping down tables, set up and take down of tables/chairs/umbrellas during appropriate weather, general cleaning, maintenance, restocking, setup and takedown of the outdoor eatery.

GENERAL

Provide general assistance to the museum and our guests, to create a wonderful and memorable experience. Occasional assistance to other museum departments with related projects as necessary. We are a non-profit and look to band together with different departments when needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Friendly, outgoing personality a must!

Interest in aviation and aerospace desirable.

Basic competency with computers desirable.

Sales and POS system experience desirable.

Food service experience desirable.

Food handlers card desirable.

Bilingual (Spanish) desirable.

Previous guest service in theme parks/hotels/museums/tourism desirable.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The museum is a non-smoking, drug-free workplace. The position requires frequent repetitive movements, standing and sitting for long periods of time. Pre-hire drug screening and criminal background check required.
