Another Source’s client, San Diego State University, is recruiting an Operations Manager to support the University Library in San Diego, California. You will have the opportunity to work one day each week remotely.

Internally this role is titled: Director of Financial Operations and Human Resources

The University Library comprises the Love Library and the Library Addition, which house a collection of over 2.5 million volumes, 100,000 journal titles, 450 databases, special collections, archives, and a growing array of digital content. The Library operates on an annual budget of approximately $11.0 million and employs around 100 student assistants and nearly 80 faculty and staff.

About the role:

Reporting to the Dean of the University Library (with a dotted line to relationship to the Provost’s Office), the Operations Manager is a member of the Library’s management team who fully participates in financial and human resource decisions. You will expertly guide actions taken and participates in complex management decisions relating to and impacting budget, finance, human resources, library projects, strategic planning, assessment and operations.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $95,000 to $98,000.

How you can expect to spend your time:

35%- Strategic Planning, Leadership, and Shared Services Implementation

Serves on library management team, fully participating in management decisions relating to and impacting budget, finance, human resources, library projects, strategic planning, assessment and operations.

30%- Director of Human Resources

Oversees all human resource matters with a scope of nearly 80 employees; expertly guides actions taken and participates in complex management decisions relating to evaluation, discipline and grievances.

30%- Fiscal and Operations Resource Management

Develops, manages, and monitors the library’s nearly $11MM budget in its entirety, including the forecasted expenditures, revenue received from various sources, special projects, master project list, funds available at year end and reserves for university operating fund, library student use fee and over forty foundation funds; presents to management team and the library

5%- Other duties as assigned

What we would like to see from you:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with major work in accounting, finance, business, or public administration.

5-7 years of experience in the content and expertise areas related to this position.

Experience with fiscal management and budget preparation, analysis and projections.

Supervisory or lead experience/experience in management of personnel with transactional responsibilities’

Ability to learn, interpret and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures relating to and impacting the applicable program, organizational unit, and/or administrative specialty.

Ability to analyze data and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistical techniques.

Ability to organize and plan work and projects including handling multiple priorities.

Ability to compile, write, and present reports related to program or administrative specialty.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the work group and serve as a liaison for the organizational unit.

Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.

Skill in the research, development and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.

Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications. Ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively.

Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a higher education or public sector setting.

Substantial, recent experience with and knowledge of trends and issues in an academic library or research institution

Experience with library assessment, statistics, or analysis tools

Master’s degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience in applicable field

Previous operational experience in a shared services environment

Experience working in the California State University system.

Experience supervising staff in a collective bargaining environment.

Experience addressing and working to resolve complex human resources issues.
