Our large and fast growing bookkeeping and tax firm needs an experienced bookkeeper with solid accounting and small business experience for a full time position. This position will have project oriented tasks versus recurring month end closing types of work so if you enjoy a variety, analysis, customer facing discussions and doing quality reviews this is the perfect role for you! There will be several main work types depending on what comes in and the needs of the business in the moment. Those will consist of:
· Due diligence projects- help review the financials of an existing business that a client is considering acquiring. We’re looking at the tax returns, financial statements, bank statements, payroll reports and more. You don’t need a tax background for this and we will provide training for the role. You will need to be a flexible thinker, problem solver, detail oriented and able to work closely with the team and the client to determine the quality of the business being sold. These projects often take 2-3 weeks and several may run concurrently.
· One time catch up/clean up projects- a new client may need historical books created or cleaned up for the last few months to the last few years.
· Review projects- review completed bookkeeping projects prior to submission to the tax department or in some cases as part of an internal review looking for things that are both incorrect from an accounting standpoint as well as simply things a client won’t appreciate or benefit from even if technically correct (ie poorly named accounts!)
· Advisory- work with clients to understand their businesses better including setting goals, understanding cash flow and its drivers and delivering in person analyses of their monthly progress. We will provide full support, training and tools for this role.
This position is best suited to someone who both understands bookkeeping and also bigger picture business questions from the standpoint of the business owner. It requires the ability to communicate well with clients particularly those who don’t necessarily understand accounting at all. It also requires you to be flexible and able to change gears as needed from one project to the next and manage your time well to complete projects by deadlines.
