Based near Sacramento, California, we have grown significantly in the past six months—from operating one farm site to six—through strategic acquisitions. Our operations include both flow-through and recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and excellence in fish health and production.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced, driven, and hands-on Site Manager to lead one of our aquaculture facilities. Depending on your experience, this may be a RAS-based or flow-through site. As Site Manager, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day operations and long-term planning of your farm while contributing to the broader vision of Plaza Aquafarms under the guidance of the Production Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and manage daily operations of a high-intensity aquaculture site
Lead and organize a team to ensure optimal farm performance
Maintain and troubleshoot key infrastructure: pumps, piping, oxygen injection systems, biofilters, chillers, and alarm systems
Monitor and manage water quality and fish health parameters
Oversee feeding, fish movements, and inventory tracking
Participate in spawning, hatchery operations, harvesting, and planning
Maintain detailed records for compliance, production, and internal reporting
Ensure facilities and equipment are maintained to a high standard
Coordinate with other sites and departments as needed
Qualifications
Proven experience in intensive aquaculture operations is required
Strong working knowledge of RAS and/or flow-through systems
Practical experience with water systems, filtration, and aquaculture equipment
Understanding or willingness to learn the biology and care of sturgeon
Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage personnel
Comfortable working in both hatchery and production environments
Capable of hands-on work in demanding situations—ready to do what needs to be done
Strong organizational and communication skills
Proficient in record keeping and basic computer systems related to farm management
Preferred Experience
Experience managing or operating a sturgeon farm
Technical background in aquaculture, fisheries, or a related field
Familiarity with spawning and caviar production
