Fish Farm Production Manager

Plaza Aquafarms, located near Sacramento, California has an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to significantly contribute to a very dynamic and innovative farming environment. The farm is producing white sturgeon for both meat and caviar. The farm is an intensive recirculation farm that is undergoing a major retrofit and expansion to allow it to get to the next level. We are looking for an experienced, hardworking, innovative individual who can make significant contributions to our operations. Your primary focus will be systems and fish management. Understanding RAS systems, both how to start one up as well as manage and maintain it as the fish inventory grows is of the highest priority. You will also be contributing to the planning and implementation of our vision for the entire operation. You will have skills or knowledge of pumps, piping, alarm systems, oxygen injection systems, chillers as well as either already knowing or have the capacity to learn the unique biology of sturgeons. You must have previous experience in a commercial aquaculture setting so you know that you should not be afraid to do what needs to be done. You will contribute to spawning, hatchery operations, harvesting planning and management, record keeping, water quality monitoring, feeding, fish movements, facilities and equipment maintenance and be a jack of all trades on the farm as well as take on new responsibilities not already specifically mentioned. You will not be afraid to participate as needed in unforeseen events or answer alarms.

The Production Manager will work closely and report to the General Manager (GM) and will contribute to meeting upper managements vision of the entire farming operation. Previous management of people and facilities is highly desirable. You must be able to manage a diverse staff of people and determine their strengths and how to best put those to use. You must be capable of interacting with the GM to coordinate and meet the needs of the processing and sales departments to ensure product is available to meet customer’s needs. This is a challenging position, and you should be prepared for the challenges.
