Tidal Transport & Trading USA, Ltd. is actively recruiting part-time general laborers to join our Sacramento team. We are a marine services company, specializing in cargo hold preparation and stevedoring support. We have been a fixture in the maritime industry on the West Coast since 2005. Our staff is comprised of master mariners, superintendents, and laborers serving a dedicated customer base locally in Northern California, as well as up and down the coast. Our investments in safety and technology make us one of the most sought-after services groups on the West Coast. We are seeking to add motivated individuals to our group, who bring their own talents and experiences to share.
What is this position exactly?
You will be hired as part of our hold cleaning division. This group services our customers’ cargo hold cleaning by engaging in multiple operations to bring interior surfaces to standard by brushing, scraping, pressure washing, or other means of cleaning.
You will be fitted with the most applicable safety equipment for the job as is currently on the market. Much of this work is done at height (10-60 feet aloft) through all seasons.
You will be expected to work with a small team to complete short-term projects on time and within parameters. You will be encouraged to think creatively and work toward a common goal.
This industry is market-driven. When there are ships, there is work. You will be on a call list and will get as much notice as possible for upcoming jobs. At times, we know about operations weeks in advance, other times we get maybe 24 hours’ notice. It is very much dependent on the job at hand. There is no repercussion for turning down work due to schedule or late notice. However, your pay and advancement will increase if you accept more work.
Some things that we require:
You must have a valid driver’s license.
Willingness to travel with the gang. Our work is 50-60% travel. Travel time is compensated, and accommodations are arranged in advance. Employees are also paid daily per diem to cover food expenses while traveling.
A good attitude. Working gangs are small teams, and it is imperative that our gangs work together without personal issues or attitudes getting in the way. We adhere to strict safety practices but nonetheless working aloft is high risk, and each team member looks out for one another.
You must be physically fit. This is not easy work. We work long days with lots of walking, climbing, lifting at or under 50lbs, and using your hands to perform tasks.
Compensation:
Laborers will start at $20/hr.
Overtime (1.5x) is paid after 8 hours in a day. Most days are more than 8 hours.
Overtime (1.5x) is paid all day on weekends (06:00 Saturday to 06:00 Monday) and holidays.
Travel time is compensated at straight time hourly rate. We have a set number of hours of travel for each location we work.
Per diem is paid at $50/day for working days on a jobsite. Travel-only days are not paid per diem.
Sick time is accrued per California standards of work hours.
401K is available for employees who meet requirements for participating.
